SCI Engineering, Inc. is a professional consulting and engineering firm offering a variety of services from the design development stage through construction. We specialize in Geotechnical, Environmental, Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, Construction Material Testing and Geophysics. The Geophysics services include utility mapping, non-destructive imaging for various applications using seismic, resistivity, electromagnetic and other methods.
Utility Locate Technician will be working in the geophysical group and will be responsible for mapping, designating and documenting utilities on a given project that may include communication lines, electrical power lines, hydronic systems, natural gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, sewer lines, etc. Utility Locate Technicians are responsible for the Quality Assurance of all utility systems designated and collected in the field. The Utility Locate Technician will need to understand, operate, and maintain a variety of subsurface utility locating & survey equipment daily. The Utility Locate Technician will need to travel occasionally. Assistance on other geophysical projects will be also required. Compensation is competitive and will depend on the applicant’s experience.

Key Responsibilities

Ability to work independently and lead surveys.

Ability to quickly learn acquisition and basic processing software.

Accurately designate overhead and underground utilities according to ASCE 38-22 standards.

Complete detailed field Investigations.

Consult on schedule planning for field operations.

Review of record information prior to and during field investigation.

Work with drafting staff to ensure completeness of data transfer.

Proficient knowledge of utility locating/geophysical technology.

Coordinate with clients, utility stakeholders, property stakeholders, etc.

Coordinate w/ subcontracted vendors of traffic control, hydro-excavation, saw cutting, etc.

Responsible for quality assurance of utilities designated in the field.

Adhere to strict safety procedures and standards.

Coordinate and/or oversee data collection.

Responsible for the completeness of utility data collected.

Assist with other geophysical and geotechnical projects, when required.
Investigation Documentation
-
Record utilities & structures designated in the field utilizing electronic devices.

Complete accurate field reports at the time of investigation.
-
Ensure quality pictures are attached to the correct structures and reports.
-
Quality assurance of field notes & reports daily.
Equipment
-
Ensure equipment is utilized the way that it is designed to be used and remain in service in accordance with manufacturer life expectancy.

Ensure equipment is properly stored, cleaned, maintained, and calibrated according to manufacturer maintenance & calibration schedules.

Ensure physical security of all equipment.

Maintain company vehicles according to manufacturer & fleet service maintenance schedules.

Operate company vehicle in compliance with DOT regulations.
Qualifications

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
-
Valid driver’s license and current driver’s insurance.
-
2 to 5 years experience with utility locating preferred.
-
Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints.

Must be able to regularly lift and move up to 75 pounds and walk/stand for multiple hours a day.

Ability to read and interpret prints at a high level.
-
At least two years of driving experience.

Computer proficiency: basic skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
