About the Position: The Studio Instructor creates and implements activities as well as provides instruction within different workspaces that support members in achieving independence, community engagement, and personal growth. This role will also provide person-centered care to all members, including but not limited to, personal care/hygiene, meals, and minimal assistance with transportation. In addition, this person is responsible for monitoring and supporting members’ physical safety and positive mental health and building healthy relationships to ensure their comfort and engagement in activities. This position will also interact with the public and community volunteers in a positive and professional manner ensuring support of the goals and reputation of the organization.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7:30 am- 3:30 pm
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement activities, and provide instructions specializing in either life skills, culinary arts, or theater, ensuring dynamic and inclusive programming for all participants of the adult day program.
- Provide hands-on care when necessary for those who are unable to care for themselves (this may include assistance with transfers, ambulation, and personal hygiene).
- Provide transportation assistance as an essential part of the job for programs that provide transportation services as part of licensure. This may include driving agency-owned, fully accessible buses, vans, or automobiles, or the staff member’s personal automobile.
- Create and implement person-centered goals and objectives that align with licensing standards, and record and collect data as required to ensure compliance.
- Participate in case reviews, consulting with the staff team regarding members’ progress, evaluating the member's needs and plan for continuing services.
- May participate in community job coaching per members’ employment plan, if appropriate, under the direction of the Center Director, completing required documentation at time of service (this may require some evening or weekend coverage to be scheduled as needed).
- Maintain good public relations with all members, family members, caregivers, community partners, and coworkers.
- Participate in member activities, special events, and fundraising activities as needed.
- Perform cleaning and housekeeping duties as assigned.
- Administer and document prescribed medication to members as needed (this will require obtaining a Medication Technician certificate through AEC).
- Assist other center locations as needed.
AEC vehicles are used in programming at all three centers, so these responsibilities apply to all AEC Member Engagement Specialists or Studio instructors:
- Maintain an acceptable driving record as established by licensure and AEC’s insurance company as well as personal vehicle insurance;
- Demonstrate ability to manage distractions and hazards to maintain safe operation of vehicles.
- Complete Pre and Post trip inspections daily and record observations to meet licensure requirements.
- Complete preventative maintenance on agency vehicles as directed.
- Monitor for abnormal sounds or changes in the performance of vehicle and report immediately to supervisor.
- Provide and maintain cheerful, pleasant demeanor and establish supportive relationships in transporting members who are aging, have chronic health issues, or are living with diverse abilities.
Performs other duties as assigned and reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Ideal Qualifications:
- 2 – 3 years’ experience assisting with neurodiverse adults preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of the non-profit sector in South Carolina
Education and/or Experience Needed:
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
- 10 – year acceptable driving record required

- Basic computer and technical knowledge relating to data collection, attendance, and email.
- Ability to read and implement person-centered care plans.
- Ability to respond effectively to the sensitive inquires or complaints.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret instructions in a variety of forms.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
- CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification required (both certification and recertification can be obtained through AEC).
