Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Possess current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
- Five (5) years of professional nursing experience; two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Overview:
As the Nursing Manager - Behavioral Health Services, you will oversee nursing supervisors, nurses, and medical assistants, ensuring coverage of essential duties. You will communicate regularly with Medical Services leadership for effective and safe service delivery. This role ensures compliance with standards (CARF, NCQA, MDHHS) and developing quality assurance measures are key aspects of the role. You will supervise and train Medical Services staff, participate in hiring and performance evaluations, and manage daily walk-in clinic services. This position is also responsible for clinical care, including patient assessments, medication administration, and support for patients with psychiatric and substance use disorders.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversees nursing supervisors, nurses and medical assistants.
- Ensures coverage of essential nursing and medical assistant duties.
- Regularly communicates with other Medical Services leadership, providing and seeking advice and support, and providing important information to ensure effective and safe service delivery and policy development.
- Assures that agency and staff meet all standards (e.g., CARF, NCQA, MDHHS).
- Develops and implements quality assurance standards for the agency and evaluates compliance with the standards.
- Participates in hiring of Medical Services employees.
- Reviews documentation in patient files to assure compliance with standards and assure quality care.
- Oversees daily functioning of walk-in clinic services, including supervision of the medical assistant.
- Responds to phone calls about medical questions (e.g., refills, side effects).
- Purchases and maintains supplies and equipment, and keeps work areas neat and clean.
- Collects patient medical histories and records vital signs.
- Prepares patients for examination and explains treatment procedures to patients as needed.
- Collects and prepares laboratory specimens, and may perform basic laboratory tests on the premises.
- Schedules and administers medication injections, as ordered by medical staff, in accordance with rules and regulations (e.g., right patient, right medication, right dose, right route; medical staff or registered nurse must be on-site; proper billing, etc.).
- Performs nursing assessments (e.g., screening/education about nicotine, diet, exercise, medications, etc.) and establishes/updates care plan on all patients as needed.
- Works with referral sources, family, physicians, and staff to assure continuity of care. Collaborates as part of interdisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating services for psychiatric, co-morbid, and for psychiatric and substance use disorders.
- Administers and monitors medications ordered by psychiatrist. Provide support, education, and reinforce use of prescribed medications to treat substance use and mental health disorders.
- Provides after-hours consultation as needed.
