Managing the company’s fixed assets and ensuring compliance with the capital expenditure (CapEx) policy will be a priority, in addition to taking a lead in the month-end close process, preparing journal entries, and reconciling balance sheet accounts. This individual will ensure that processes are designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s financial results, and comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Primary Duties & Responsibilities:*
- Lead month-end close processes and ensure preparation and submission of any required financial reports to support senior management teams.
- Manage timely and accurate processing and recording of financial transactions, including general ledger, banking, revenue and billing, cash receipts, accounts payable and fixed assets.
- Partner with internal CapEx team to ensure quarterly work in progress close outs and fixed asset transfers are completed timely.
- Collaborate with team members across the organization to verify asset locations, usage, and condition. Participate in physical inventory counts and reconciliation efforts to maintain asset accuracy.
- Reconcile, review and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts for discrepancies.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, and improve efficiency through automation, standardization, and best practices.
- Provide support to external auditors on any requests related to fixed assets and work in progress.
- Assist in creating and maintaining current department procedure documentation.
- Perform other accounting duties and support staff members, as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Working knowledge of GAAP and best practices for completing month-end close.
- Ability to work with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas.
- High competency with compiling and analyzing financial information.
- High attention to detail to avoid or catch potential errors on financial statements.
- Ability to multitask, establish priorities to meet deadlines.
- MS Office advanced computer skills, Excel intermediate to advanced level.
- Advanced communication skills (both verbal and written), and the ability to communicate with all levels of management and staff.
- Ability to appropriately manage confidential information.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
- Minimum 5 years of full-cycle accounting experience, property management industry preferred.
- Experience with month-end close, journal entries, general ledger reconciliations required.
- Fixed asset/CapEx experience required.
- CPA preferred.
