Description
Directs and coordinates all data collection, quality and performance improvement initiatives, and clinical documentation to ensure adherence to regulatory standards. Collaborates with Medical Director and Operations Manager on revenue generating and recovery initiatives, as well as data collection, modeling and analysis, audits, productivity, and training. Directs EPIC clinical systems including information management, documentation and compliance within Department of Psychiatry.
To be cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the department and the hospital.
Responsibilities
A. Clinical/Technical
1.In charge of auditing and monitoring documentation in accordance with NYS Office of Mental Health, JACHO, Medicare and Medicaid standards
2.In charge of Medicare ADR requests. Must audit all requested charts to ensure standardization and accuracy
3.Coordinate and complete audits on all Medicare encounters on the date of service, and work with clinicians to correct or adjust any deficiencies to meet required standards
B.Quality Improvement
1.Works directly with Operations Manager on in-clinic quality improvement studies and initiatives, which include developing and designing studies, creating data collection tools, generating reports, and statistical analysis
2.Maintain an inventory of quality and performance improvement measures and activities
3.Design and implement strategies and corrective action plans to address deficiencies
4.Attend and present at monthly quality improvement departmental meetings to review current procedures and findings
5.Organize, collect, and analyze utilization reviews and quality improvement data using RedCap, and provide feedback to clinicians and administration
6.Audit treatment plans clinic-wide on a quarterly basis, plot findings, analyze trends and implement procedures to address deficiencies
7.Develop dynamic tools for monitoring and improving documentation as required by corrective action plans
C. Revenue Reporting
1.Generate and compile reports and plot data to present the clinics revenue status and implementation of ongoing projects through Epic reports and MedeAnalytics
2.Collaborate and strategize with finance and billing, as well as system administration to coordinate ADR requests, submissions and resubmissions to limit losses and recover revenue
D. EPIC/ EMR
1.In charge of maintaining the electronic medical record system EPIC
2.Conduct EPIC training for all new permanent staff, trainees (psychology interns, externs, psychiatry residents and fellows, social work interns) and supervisors
3.Assist in the development of policies and procedures regarding regulatory compliance
4.Work with clinical leadership and medical records to develop and implement protocols to maintain confidentiality and appropriate availability of the Medical Record
5.Assist computer avoidant staff in developing necessary skills for their job needs
6.Provide support and develop support protocols for EPIC users
E. Organizational/Managerial
7.Coordinate measurement of performance indicators and outcomes in consultation with Operations Manager and Physician-in-Charge
8.Monitor and create reports on clinician productivity in accordance with RVU targets and system-wide visit targets
9.Create/generate reports and graphs for audits and corrective action plans
10.Maintain inventory of reports
11.Monitor clinical documentation to meet regulatory, billing and quality standards
12.Maintain patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information
13.Observe the Health Care Systems compliance policies
F. Educational/Professional Development
1.Participates in the development of other staff members
2.Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements
3.Identifies learning strengths and needs
4.Utilizes learning resources
5.Supervises all technical staff assigned to EPIC
6.Develops proficiency in all new software implemented by the Department of Psychiatry
7.Stays current in behavioral health informatics
8.Provides in-service training to the Department of Psychiatry regarding all aspects of clinical system utilization as necessary
9.Attends training seminars and conferences
10.Familiarity with Psychiatric clinical information regulations (JCAHO, OMH)
G. Communication/Relationships
1.Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others.
2.Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community.
3.Facilitates a productive and supportive relationship between Psychiatry, IT and Administration to enhance the development of mutually beneficial integrated systems.Add additional Communication/Relationship skills here.
4.Maintains clear systems of communication between the divisions of the Department of Psychiatry and between Psychiatry and other departments regarding clinical systems.

Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- 5+ years mental health experience
- Data collection, modeling, and statistical analysis
- In-depth Knowledge of documentation standards for Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, and all regulatory governing bodies
- Familiarity with psychiatric care and psychiatric clinical documentation

Compensation
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58661 - $66000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
