Job Description: Sanford Federal, Inc. is seeking a Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician Lead to provide leadership and supervisory support to pharmacy technicians at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP) in Hines, Illinois. The CMOP processes over 15 million prescriptions annually and supports all fifty states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and US Territories. The Lead will ensure the accurate and efficient processing of prescriptions and support the overall operations of the pharmacy.
Hours of Operation:
- 1st Shift: 6:30 AM through 3:00 PM
- 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM through 12:00 AM
Responsibilities:
Supervision and Leadership:
- Supervise daily operations on the production floor, ensuring all activities are coordinated with other production areas.
- Orient and train new pharmacy technicians on correct labeling and packing procedures according to current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assign and oversee work assignments for pharmacy technicians, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Assist in evaluating the performance of pharmacy technicians and provide feedback to improve performance.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain required records on staff background investigations, training, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with all VA and CMOP policies and procedures.
- Assist with maintaining inventories of drugs and supplies, stocking shelves, rotating stock, and checking expiration dates of pharmaceuticals.
Technical Duties:
- Prepare and dispense medications, including packaging, labeling, and distributing medication doses as prescribed by physicians.
- Operate various types of pharmacy automation, including Autofill devices, Baker Cells, Kalish cells, A-frames, repackaging equipment, and electronic scales.
- Perform quality assurance checks on medication orders to ensure accuracy.
- Understand and implement precautions required when handling hazardous medications, materials, and hazardous waste.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting, or graduation from an Academic Technician Training Educational Program.
- Demonstrated experience leading a group or project, indicating the ability to manage and supervise others.
Skills and Abilities:
- Effective interpersonal skills to interact with peers and subordinates.
- Basic typing and PC computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office.
- Ability to train pharmacy technicians on correct procedures and standards.
- Proficiency in performing basic mathematical calculations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when required; push or pull up to 150 pounds on a rolling cart or using a pallet jack.
- Capability to stand or sit for long periods (8-10 hours), stoop, reach upward, and withstand various types of repetitive motion.
Other Requirements:
- Must read, understand, speak, and write English fluently.
- Ability to understand and follow precautions required when handling hazardous medications and waste.
- Demonstrated experience in administrative/records management to assist with maintaining required records on staff background investigations, training, and reporting.
