Under the direction and supervision of the Director of BJC, caseworkers will provide case-management services to Under the direction and supervision of the Jail Based Competency Restoration Program Manager/LPHA, caseworker will provide competency restoration services to adults who are deemed incompetent to stand trial (IST) pursuant to Texas Code of Criminal Procedure (CCP), Chapter 46B, and who have been court-ordered to received JBCR services. The JBCR caseworker will work within a muti-disciplinary treatment team at the McLennan County Jail with treatment directed toward the specific objective of restoring Program participants to competency to stand trial. The caseworker will deliver competency restoration services addressing mental health and COPSD that are effective, responsive, individualized, culturally competent, trauma informed, and person centered; These services will include, but are not limited to: intake assessments, assessments of suicidality and homicidality, individualized treatment plans, legal education, rehabilitative services including skills training or psychosocial rehabilitation, transition services, and discharge plans. The caseworker will ensure that all competency restoration services are delivered according to contractual and agency requirements. The caseworker will participate in a weekly treatment team staffing to reassess Program participant’s progress toward restoration of competence.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED::
- Provides a full array of competency restoration services to JBCR Program participants according to requirements as set forth in JBCR contract.
- Participates in a multi-disciplinary treatment team and provides updates of treatment progress in weekly staffing.
- Performs intake assessments with new participants.
- Provides approved legal education to Program participants.
- Provides transition services and continuity of care services to Program Participants, as appropriate.
- Prepares progress notes and other required documentation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent written communication and basic computer knowledge for treatment planning and inputting clinical documentation
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal relations with consumers, staff, and community providers
- Time management and organization required to meet service goals
- Local travel (75%) and regional travel (25%)
- Stooping, bending, sitting, standing, lifting up to 30 lbs., and keyboarding for prolonged periods
- Ability to be CPR and PMAB certified
- Valid driver's license, liability insurance, and reliable transportation required:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master’s in social work, psychology or related field with ability to obtain Qualified Mental Health Professional credentialing
- 1 year of case management experience Preferred:
Hours: M-F 8AM-5PM with other as needed:
Salary: $50,000 Annually:
$55,000 Annually with LCDC License:
