Scope
Michter’s Distillery is seeking a Distillery Associate to work at our Fort Nelson Distillery located at 801 W Main St., Louisville, KY 40202. This will be an opportunity to become involved in the bourbon industry, one of Kentucky’s finest traditions. This position will report to the Visitor Experience Manager and is responsible for delivering the highest standard of educational and hospitality experience. This facility will include educational tours, ticketing and gift shop sales, a tasting room, a bar, and an e-commerce platform. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
Primary Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Develop a complete understanding of Michter’s operations through work in our distillery at 2351 New Millennium Dr., Louisville, KY, 40216 to include but not limited to: filling barrels, dumping barrels, and bottling operations.
- Perform daily startup and shutdown processes.
- Learn and educate on Michter’s distillery operations and processes.
- Operate in compliance with, and encourage adherence to, all applicable laws and regulations governing distilled spirits manufacturing, including sensory and tasting experiences.
- Comfortable working in a consumer facing environment and interacting with Michter’s guests to greet and educate on Michter’s brand heritage, quality and key differentiating philosophies.
- Conduct public and private educational experiences at the Michter’s Ft. Nelson Distillery.
- Learn and educate on the history of the Ft. Nelson building.
- Learn and lead guided sensory and tasting experiences.
- Ensure facility is well maintained, clean and welcoming at all times.
- Identify, understand and accommodate guest special needs and requirements
- Operate retail, ticketing and compliance software for legal drinking age.
- Maintain visual displays, stock retail items, conduct inventory counts and receive and stock merchandise.
- Respond to phone calls and answer guest questions.
- Able to count cash drawers and manage credit card processing.
- Able to advise guests on other Kentucky Bourbon Trail locations, local attractions, other hospitality.
- Assist with curbside sales events
- Assist with special event requirements as needed.
- Assist with bar setup, cleanup and back bar support when needed.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- May be called upon to support other responsibilities outside of normal working hours.
- Adheres to all company policies regarding health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
- Immediately reports all safety, environmental, and quality issues to leadership.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in the spirits industry a plus.
- At least one year in hospitality, customer service or retail.
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
- Knowledge of the bourbon industry preferred.
- Any knowledge of barbacking/bartending is a plus.

- Must be available to work weekends and overtime.
