Rivertown Theaters is a performing arts theater that produces 7 to 10 major Broadway-style theatrical productions per year for tens of thousands of patrons. We are looking for a full-time qualified theatrical carpenter and scenic artist to cut, fabricate, paint and install wooden and other structures according to specifications to be used as scenery for theatrical productions. The position will also read plans/scenic elevations, match paint samples, artfully reproduce an image from a reference/painters elevation, paint texture work, backdrop surface preparation and paint, assist in set dressing.

You will work entirely indoors in our scenic shop and will work with our technical director, set designers, and other carpenters to produce sturdy and functional set pieces.
The ideal candidate will have great hand dexterity, an eye for detail, good knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials, including a broad set of power and air tools. Working with little supervision while following all health and safety standards is essential.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience in constructing theatrical scenery or a BA in theatrical production and a minimum of 2 years professional experience, as well as painting scenic art
- Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
- Build platforms and movable structures by using raw materials or pre-constructed items
- Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
- Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements
- Must possess good color matching skills.
- Must have the ability to reproduce techniques and textures efficiently.
- Backdrop painting and/or sculpting experience is a bonus, but not required.
- Must be able to reproduce an image from a reference/painters elevation.
- Must demonstrate clean working practices.
- Must be well educated in safe practices and applications for all power and hand tools.
- Must be able to work predominantly unsupervised.
- Ability to work inside a one person bucket lift or ladder periodically.
- Ability to lift 50lbs or more.
