Position Overview
This role is ideal for someone who has experience in Education or Social Services OR someone who has an interest in gaining experience working with children.
As an Enrichment Program Tutor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the educational and enrichment activities of students during after-school hours. Working under the supervision of program coordinators, you will assist in implementing engaging programs, providing academic support, and fostering a positive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Supervision and Assistance:
- Supervise students during after-school hours, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Assist students with homework assignments and provide academic support as needed.
2. Activity Planning and Implementation:
- Collaborate with program coordinators to plan and implement educational and recreational activities.
- Lead or assist in organizing age-appropriate games, arts and crafts, and other extracurricular activities.
3. Behavior Management:
- Implement positive behavior management strategies to create a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.
- Address behavioral issues promptly and communicate effectively with students, parents, and program staff.
4. Communication:
- Maintain open communication with parents and program coordinators regarding student progress and behavior.
- Provide regular feedback on student engagement and participation.
5. Resource Support:
- Assist in maintaining an organized and well-equipped learning environment.
- Prepare and distribute learning materials as directed by program coordinators.
6. Attendance Tracking:
- Keep accurate records of student attendance and participation in after-school activities.
- Report any concerns regarding attendance or participation to program coordinators.
7. Emergency Procedures:
- Follow established procedures for handling emergencies and ensure the safety of students at all times.
- Participate in emergency drills and training as required.
- Associate’s degree or 48 credits from an accredited college or university, or pass a paraprofessional/basic skills test.
- 1+ years of experience working with children in an educational/organized setting.
- A passion for education and a desire to improve education.
- Skills to work successfully with school aged elementary and middle school children.
- Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Knowledge of safe practices in classroom and playground activities.
- Maintain a personal appearance with high grooming standards and demonstrate a personality that promotes a positive example for students
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations/unforeseen situations.
- Creative and energetic. Strong moral values and discipline. Be flexible and receptive to change.
- Attend and/or complete all required training as assigned.
Schedule:
This is a part-time position, typically scheduled for after-school hours, Monday through Friday. The specific schedule may vary based on program needs. Ideal availability is Monday - Friday from 1:30pm - 6:30pm.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $18.50 per hour
