The Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB) is opening a new laboratory located in the Boston area and is looking for Sr. Research Associates or Associate Scientists to join our growing team of scientists.
We are looking to recruit talented individuals with an interest in gaining valuable wet lab experience to help us build a world class research group.
- Under the guidance of the head of one of our research groups (i.e., Drug Discovery, Mitochondrial Biology, Metabolomics, etc.), you will work with minimal supervision to help drive a variety of projects in this lab-based role.
- Using your current and emerging expertise in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and/or protein science you will propose experiments, design experiments, analyze data, and present findings at meetings.
- You will collaborate closely with our team to help us unlock biological secrets and make transformative scientific discoveries.
- Lab and Personnel Duties
- In coordination with the Senior Lab Manager, ensure the smooth operations of the Cambridge laboratory space. All lab members will play an active role in defining the workflow and culture of our new lab. This will include common lab duties (reagent preparation, organization, etc.) beyond your project-specific responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
● Master’s degree plus 1-2 years’ experience for Sr. Research Associate role
● PhD Degree required for Associate Scientist Role
● An excitement and talent for performing laboratory work.
● A highly motivated team player.
● Direct experience with or a willingness to learn the following methods:
o Molecular biology: recombinant DNA cloning, mutagenesis, Gibson assembly, PCR, RT-qPCR.
o Protein biochemistry: Western blotting, protein expression, protein purification, in vitro enzymatic activity assays.
o Genomic engineering: CRISPR reagent design, cloning, and genome engineering.
o Tissue culture: Cell culture, gene expression and knockout analyses, lentivirus production, single cell cloning or organoid approaches.
o Genomics: Experience with analysis of genomic and RNA-Seq data is enthusiastically appreciated but not required.
● High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, Slack, and Adobe Pro.
Preferred
● Experience with coding in common languages such as Python or R is preferred. Candidates with AI or Machine Learning expertise are especially encouraged to apply.
● A love of cell culture, assay plates, and an innate ability to geek out on science.
