Position Title: Montessori Support Specialist Teacher
Reports To: Lead Montessori Teacher and Executive Director
Position Summary:
We are seeking a versatile and dedicated Montessori Support Specialist Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will provide support across multiple classrooms, assisting teachers with daily activities, classroom management, and student engagement. This role requires flexibility, a strong understanding of Montessori principles, and the ability to work collaboratively with various teachers and students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom Support:
- Assist in various Montessori classrooms as needed, providing support to lead teachers during lessons and activities.
- Help prepare and maintain the Montessori environment, ensuring materials are organized and accessible.
- Assist with setting up and cleaning up activities, maintaining a tidy and safe classroom environment.
- Student Engagement:
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce lessons, provide additional support, and facilitate learning.
- Observe and document student progress, sharing insights with lead teachers to help tailor educational approaches.
- Encourage student independence, respect, and responsibility in line with Montessori principles.
- Flexibility and Adaptability:
- Quickly adapt to the needs of different classrooms and age groups, ranging from toddlers to elementary students.
- Fill in for lead teachers or other assistants during absences, maintaining continuity and consistency in the classroom.
- Participate in various classroom activities, including academic lessons, arts and crafts, and outdoor play.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with lead teachers about student needs, classroom dynamics, and any issues that arise.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a supportive and cohesive educational environment.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
- Student Safety and Well-being:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all students, following school policies and procedures.
- Supervise students during transitions, recess, and other non-classroom times.
- Address any behavioral issues in a positive and constructive manner, in line with Montessori philosophy.
Qualifications:
- One year experience working with children in an educational setting, preferably in a Montessori environment.
- Understanding of Montessori principles and methods (Montessori certification or training is a plus).
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators.
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to engage in activities with children, including sitting on the floor, bending, and lifting educational materials.
- Ability to maintain a calm and patient demeanor in a busy educational environment.
Compensation: $15.00-$17.00/hour
