The Communications Manager is responsible for leading the development and execution of internal and external communications initiatives that boost the visibility of the firm and its attorneys. Working closely on these initiatives with the Director of Business Development & Communications, the Communications Manager will create and distribute content for use across all platforms, including the external website, intranet, social media, promotional brochures, and media pitches. This individual will also assist with drafting surveys and award submissions and with coordinating thought leadership opportunities.
Additionally, the Communications Manager will liaise with outside PR consultants as needed to help identify story ideas, develop media lists, arrange/attend interviews, coach interviewees, and monitor media coverage.
The Communications Manager is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior client service to internal and external constituents while maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and collegiality and producing high-quality work product.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop content to support communications and marketing efforts, as well as drive engagement and raise brand awareness, including highlighting our cases, culture, and recruiting and DEI efforts across offices. Ensure distribution of that content through appropriate communications channels, such as press releases, award entries, firm website and intranet content, and social media posts.
- Support efforts to identify, assess, and coordinate attorney participation in conferences, seminars, forums, sponsorships, and speaking and writing opportunities to ensure they are aligned with the goals of the firm, offices, and practices.
- Stay up to date on legal industry trends and utilize that knowledge to proactively make communications-related recommendations, such as generating pitch ideas or specific types of content, to support individuals, cases, practices, and the firm.

Ensure that marketing materials are updated regularly, appropriately reflect practice group experience and expertise, and are consistent with firm brand and style guidelines.

Assist with media monitoring process, track article and commentary placements, and produce daily media clips reports.

Consult with external PR teams on all aspects relating to the firm’s media relations and work to develop and maintain relationships with key legal, business, and industry trade media.

Assist with drafting the firm’s external submissions for legal directories, awards, and surveys, working with lawyers and practice leaders to draft nominations, and promote award wins.

Monitor legal and trade publication editorial calendars for award submissions and other media pitching opportunities.
- Draft/review bios, press releases, social media posts and announcements.

Communicate regularly with the BD/Comms team and other relevant internal stakeholders to ensure that the status of projects, including media-related developments, are shared in a timely fashion.

Proactively contribute to broader BD/Comms projects and initiatives as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent writing and communication skills, including strong grammar, punctuation and spelling skills, and an ability to translate technical and industry-specific information into clear, compelling content.

- Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are essential; experience with Adobe InDesign is preferred.
