The Special Education Teacher at Mainspring Academy will develop appropriate curriculum based activities and set individualized goals for students to meet their greatest potential. Our School population includes students with severe behaviors and those who need assistance with daily living skills. Class ratios are maximum 6:2 with additional support from floaters and therapists throughout the day.
Requirements:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in education or other relevant Bachelor's degree. Candidates with experience in special education but unrelated bachelor’s will be considered.
- Florida Teacher Certification/Certificate eligibility is highly preferred, but not required.
- Applicant must have experience with children/adolescents with disabilities, including those with severe behaviors.
- Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis preferred, but not a requirement

Communication with students and parents:
- Updates on daily activities of students and reports their progress
- Reviews broad daily schedule and any changes occurring that day or week
- Reviews home notes or communication from parents and responds appropriately and in a timely manner
- Delivers good and bad news with a professional and courteous demeanor, has excellent conflict resolution
- Works with the parent/student to determine their goals and incorporate them into the ILP (Individualized Learning Program)
Teaching:
- Presents materials in an organized manner, following lesson plans.
- Provides remedial tasks for those who need additional support.
- Provides enrichment for those who have mastered particular skills.
- Differentiates lessons and materials
- Is innovative and creative in presenting materials
- Writes and reviews student ILPs
- Records student data on ILP goals and inputs student progress data into appropriate tracking system daily.
Planning:
- Conducts ongoing research on activities and assignments that are age, developmental level and academically appropriate for students
- Attends classroom planning meetings to prepare lessons and determines/communicates student needs
Professional Development/Coaching:
- Attends supervision sessions with management and Administration
- Collaborates with other Classroom Teachers on student progress, goal mastery and plans for upcoming school year, in preparation for annual ILP meeting with parents
- Seeks feedback and provides feedback when appropriate.
- Seeks additional professional development opportunities.
Communication:
- Meets with outsourced therapists to become aware of progress or concerns and provide feedback
- Attends teacher meetings
