DEFINITION: Direct Support Professionals are responsible for providing compassionate care and assistance to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who may also have behavioral health challenges and/or physical limitations.
Program participants may also have a mental health diagnosis, substance use problems, and complex behavioral challenges. The program focuses on helping individuals work through their emotional and behavioral challenges, prevent relapse of criminal and/or addictive behaviors, and learn skills that allow them to interact more successfully in the community and with others.
Duties and Essential Functions:
- Provide supervision and support for each client in meeting goals in their “Individual Program Plan” (IPP)
- Assist clients with daily living needs, such as hygiene, grooming and dress, exercise, communication, and socialization skills with the goal of improving client's self-reliance
- Assist clients with prescribed medications, while maintaining required documentation and adhering to EBSI’s policies.
- Prepare meals and snacks as needed.
- Using the Company van, supervise and escort clients to medical and dental appointments, community outings, and other activities as assigned by Program Administrator.
- Maintain daily logs, data reports, and mandated reporting requirements such as SIR/UIRS
- Develop a rapport with residents and cultivate a safe and supportive relationship.
- Attend and complete required meetings, training, and continuing education units (CEUs)

Job Qualifications
- Must meet Title 17 and Title 22 requirements (CCL and Regional Center Requirements)
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED,
- Minimum Experience: 6 months of professional or personal experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities (e.g. Autism) or mental illnesses (e.g. Bipolar) with challenging behaviors
- Licenses and Certifications:
- DSP 1 & 2 (within 6-12 months of hire)
- CPR/First Aid/ CPI certification (within 90 days of hire)
- RBT (within the first year of hire)
- Minimum Driving Experience: Must have a valid CA driver’s license, be over 21, provide current registration and insurance, and meet insurability requirements of EBSI insurance carrier.
- Physical Abilities: Pass a pre-employment physical; ability to lift 40 pounds.
