Job Title: Scientific Technical Editor
Location: Washington, DC / Hybrid Remote
Citizenship Requirement: Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident with ability to pass a Public Trust level background check
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitates document preparation and development in close collaboration with, management, leadership, and staff; and edit and produce documents and reports such as national strategic plans and Supplements to the President's Budget to the high standards of accuracy and quality required.
- Demonstrates flexibility in managing multiple tasks and assignments, with tight, deadlines.
- Collaborates with leadership and colleagues to ensure that documents are compelling, engaging, and technically accurate.
- Demonstrates knowledge of publishing requirements for reports, strategies, and brochures.
- Provides technical analysis, prepares reviews of the literature, and develops summaries or analysis of meetings and/or reports as requested by Federal leaders.
- Monitors NITRD and OSTP science and technology R&D publications to maintain awareness of National R&D priorities and developments in the NITRD program component areas.
- Maintains awareness of NITRD interagency and individual agency activities related to the successful execution of NITRD plans and documents.
Required Skills and Experience:
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident with ability to pass a background investigation.
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum ten (10) years’ relevant experience required, which may include roles in scientific research, science policy, science/technical writing, or other experiences that demonstrate translatable skills.
- Proficiency in document production software including Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat and demonstrated publication management experience.
- Top-quality editorial skills, for structure, content, and clarity, as well as grammar and spelling.
- Familiarity with document accessibility requirements associated with Section 508 and tools and techniques to develop 508-compliant documents.
- Familiarity with the scientific field, and of the functioning of the U.S. Government.
- Demonstrated high-level analytical and writing skills.
- Exceptional organizational and exquisite attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaborative teams.
- Strong communication skills, team player, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated creative thinker and quick learner.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- PhD or twelve (12) years of relevant experience, which may include roles in scientific research, science policy, science/technical writing, or other experiences that demonstrate translatable skills.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the scientific field, and of the functioning of the U.S. Government, particularly the Executive Branch.
- Experience developing large, multi-faceted, high-profile reports and strategic plans.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
