POSITION SUMMARY
The mission and purpose of this position is to provide basic and advanced life support care to patients with whom you will come into contact while working on the Contract Ambulance Service with the Las Vegas Fire and the Las Vegas Fire Crisis Response Team. The CAS/CRT is an operational partnership with American Medical Response, the Southern Nevada Community Health Improvement Program (CHIPs), and Las Vegas Fire and Rescue that responds to LVFR 911 calls and to mental health patients in crisis through the 911 system .
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess each call situation to determine the best action and appropriate protocol.
- Utilize medical equipment and procedures, including defibrillator, oxygen and suction devices, CPR, and other procedures at an EMT certification level.
- The EMT will evaluate the patient for medical complaints, specifically looking for mimics of psychiatric issues that may be serious medical conditions based on parameters outlined in the SNHD Draft Psychiatric Patient Destination Protocol .
- Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
- Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
- Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
- Communicate with the receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information.
- Communicate with patients and their loved ones to provide information, assure them that care is being given, and show compassion.
- Engage as an active multidisciplinary team member, including Paramedics, EMTS, LCSW, and other community partners, to collaboratively decide upon the best course of action for CRT patients.
- Drive the ambulance and provide map reading support to minimize call response time.
- Continuously maintain all required certifications.
- Communicate with the dispatcher to receive and understand call data and customer feedback.
- Monitor and maintain the general condition of the unit, keep it clean and stocked for optimal call response to maintain the image of AMR.
- Document activities about patient care and billing; ultimately to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call.
- Follow policies and procedures regarding out-of-chute times and turnaround times.
- Consider patient status and insurance preferred facilities when determining transportation destinations.
- Ability to work past scheduled shifts with little or no notice.
- Work collaboratively and professionally with all allied health and public safety personnel.
- Reports immediately to the CRT supervisor and LCSW Manager any incident involving a negative customer and patient interaction.
- Read road maps, drive vehicles, and accurately discern street signs and address numbers.
- Read medication/prescription labels and usage directions quickly, accurately, and reasonably.
- Communicate verbally with patients and significant others in various environments to interview patients, family members, and bystanders.
- Ability to discern deviations/changes in eye/skin coloration due to the patient's condition and to the treatment given.
- Converse the patient's status with the dispatcher and EMS providers via phone or radio.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Adherence to and compliance with information systems security policies and procedures.

- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and a high frustration tolerance in rapidly evolving mental health and behavioral calls.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment involving various types of medical practices involving both pre-hospital and psychiatric medicine.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members to improve best practices in a constantly changing program.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Licensing/Certification/Work History:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Some advanced education is preferred.
- Current state EMT License.
- Possess a valid State Driver's License.
- Current BLS Provider Certification
- Current SNHD Provider Certification
- Driving record in compliance with AMR Safety and Driving policy.
- No disciplinary actions on record within 6 months of application. (internal applicants)

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to successfully pass Physical Agility Test
- Aptitudes required for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition that would not be adversely affected by frequently having to walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance at times.
- Must be able to lift, drag, hoist, and carry different types of equipment and other objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Working Conditions: Available to work days, nights, weekends and holidays, extended workdays. Long periods inside the ambulance. May work indoors or outdoors with exposure to weather. Possible routine exposure to moderate noise levels. May periodically work in poorly lit environments in a moving vehicle.
Physical Demands: Moderate to extended amounts of sitting, standing, and walking. Some repetitive motion activities. Routinely lifting more than 200 lbs. with assistance. Pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, carrying, typing and stair climbing. Visual identification of color-coded items. Clear speech and hearing. Must be able to wear a face mask or respirator with proper fit for extended periods when required.
Mental Requirements: Critical thinking skills with the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Fatigue, high pressure, exposure to stressful situations.
