This is a 11-month position paid over 12 months.
Offering a $7500 sign on bonus, contingent upon availability of funds, for Skilled, Highly Qualified teachers. Skilled, Highly Qualified is defined as having obtained a NC DPI Certified Teaching license with VI (Visually Impaired) endorsement(s) and as is applicable to the student population/classroom served.
The Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS) provides residential and day educational programs to blind and/or visually impaired students, ages five to 22 years. Governor Morehead School strives to offer specialized educational opportunities, community outreach, and an immersive environment for North Carolina students with visual impairments and additional disabilities. GMS serves students across the state of North Carolina through K-12 enrollment, outreach short-term events, and summer school programs. The campus is in Raleigh, NC. We are actively recruiting for a Highly Qualified School Educator/Extended Content Standards Teacher. This position provides instruction in all components of the instruction to students on the extended content standards graded 9-12 and beyond.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide educational and instructional services to students who are blind and visually impaired located on the GMS campus; this position is assigned to teach across multiple grades and ability levels to:

Provide Direct Instruction: This position teaches skills such as assistive technology, braille literacy, daily living skills, and all other areas of the expanded core curriculum (ECC).

Adapt the Curriculum: This position modifies and adapts classroom materials and activities to make them accessible to students with visual impairments and may be scheduled as a co-teacher for a course taught at GMS or via NCVPS.

Provide Support to Classroom Teachers: This position offers guidance and support to classroom teachers on how to best accommodate and teach students with visual impairments.

Developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): The TVI works with the student, parents, and other educators to develop IEPs tailored to the student's needs, goals, and abilities and may serve as a case manager for a group of students.

Evaluations, assessments, and progress monitor: This position is responsible for assessing students, progress monitoring, conducting Assistive Technology Assessments, Functional Vision Assessments (FVA), Learning Media Assessments (LMA), braille inventory assessments, and all other assessments needed aligned with ECC and best practices.

Advocacy and training: This position advocates for the needs and rights of students with visual impairments, both within the school and in the community while providing professional developments, training opportunities to staff, parents, and the community, and providing parent supports. This position will also provide support when requested to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) for the purpose of the enrollment and assessment of students.
Collaborate with Other Professionals: This position works closely with other professionals, such as teachers, educational development aides (EDA), occupational therapists, physical therapists, and orientation and mobility specialists, to ensure that the student's needs are met comprehensively.

Other duties as assigned include the transportation or monitoring of students on transportation.
