As a Mechanical Design Engineer for Interiors within the Vehicle Engineering team, you will be responsible to design, release and deliver, from concept to production, vehicle interior components and systems. These could include instrument panels, hard moldings, soft moldings, seating or interior lighting required for the integration of self-driving systems or otherwise unique to the requirements of a self-driving vehicle.
Job Description
Responsibilities
- Develop and release body interior components and subsystems into production, collaborating with attribute leads, cross-functional engineering teams, manufacturing team, engineering partners and other stakeholders.
- Support source selection activities, working with the Global Supply Chain team and suppliers to specify components, and ensure timely delivery for vehicle build activities
- Utilize CAD tools (CATIA V5/V6) and direct CAD design personnel on packaging, integrating and detailing components
- Execute quality and robustness activities such as DFMEA and DVP&R
- Support vehicle prototype and production build activities, ensuring proper fit and function of components and resolving issues
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of automotive engineering experience that includes design and release of interior systems (e.g. instrument panels, hard moldings, soft moldings, seating, and interior lighting)
- Experience with CAD design tools and process, and experience overseeing production drawing releases
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience successfully working with industrial design on concept feasibility
- Proven track record of delivery from concept through launch
- Understands and deals well with rapid development cycles and experimental hardware.
- Self-starter with creative and critical thinking capabilities, and demonstrates the ability to work autonomously and maintain communication with interested parties
- Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
