JOB TITLE: Fiber Optic Technician
JOB CLASS: Hourly, Full Time
JOB HOURS: 40+ Hour Week, Typically M-F 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with possible variations to accommodate specific project requirements. Occasional overtime, night work, and weekend work as required.
SALARY: range $20.00 hr. to $40.00 hr.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installation of OSP fiber optic network systems and ensure that they work properly.
- Installation of OSP fiber optic cable for backbone and laterals.
- Terminate, splice, and install a variety of splice enclosures, connector types and installation style. Including anerobic epoxy and polish or splice on pigtails.
- Fusion splice both loose tube and ribbon fiber.
- Troubleshoot OSP fiber network infrastructure.
- Conducting testing operations utilizing an OTDR, CWDM OTDR, OSA (Optical Spectrum Analyzer), and OLS/OPM. Including set up and reading traces.
- Read and interpret splicing diagrams, prints, and specifications.
- Conduct audits of existing network infrastructure and document.
- 2-5 years of experience.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Splicing & terminating fiber: desired 2-5 years.
- Previous construction or electrical experience helpful.
- Must be proficient with common hand tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform heavy physical work, often under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with others.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, and TRAINING:
- Must possess and maintain valid Texas driver’s license.
- Must maintain a valid medical card if you have a CDL driver’s license.
- Must be insurable.
- IMSA Work Zone Safety Certification or equivalent or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to work at heights over 20 feet.
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
