Lead Teacher
The Lead Teacher is responsible for a classroom or unit of children and at times other center children as assigned. The Lead Teacher reports to the center director, and works in collaboration with other teachers in the center.
Minimum Qualifications
· Child Development Associate credential, Associates Degree or a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, or a related field of study with minimum 12 semester hours in the area of Early Childhood Education or Child Development is preferred.
· Relevant teaching experience will be considered in lieu of education.
· Demonstrates emotional maturity and stability, and the ability to handle crisis situations.
· Demonstrates leadership ability and organizational skills.
Principle Responsibilities
· Plans and follows a consistent daily schedule which includes a balance of quiet and movement activities: self selected activities, outdoor play, lunch, snacks, and occasional field trips.
·Arranges effective, appropriate and safe learning centers which foster children’s learning through play and exploration.
·Creates environments that facilitate learning in all developmental areas: cognitive, language, physical, social and emotional.
·Knowledgeable of and implements TDC Curriculums.
·Uses positive guidance for behaviors. Anticipates and defuses disruptive behaviors.
(Physical punishment, hitting, slapping, spanking, shouting or threatening children will not be tolerated, and will result in immediate termination of employment.)
· Uses on-going assessment and evaluation to meet the specific developmental needs of each child.
· Develops and implements an individual learning plan for each child. Involves the parents in developing the child’s individual learning plan, via twice yearly parent-teacher conferences and provides 2 written progress reports. (The center director will assist the lead teacher with the parent-teacher conferences.)
·Maintains a friendly cooperative, professional working relationships with all center staff, other TDC staff, volunteers, parents, children and others involved with the child care program.
· Works cooperatively, or in a supervisory role, with assistant teachers in the classroom and in the center.
· Knows the TDC policies and procedures and KDHE licensing regulations and complies with them.
·Attends center staff meetings, and the periodic TDC agency staff meetings, parent activities, etc.
· Completes a minimum of 15 hours of in-service training each year. Provides verification of attendance.
·Performs other tasks as requested by the Center Director.
Physical Demands
· Must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
·Must be able to visually observe children in the classroom and on the playground.
·Job requires ability to lift and carry small children.
· Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull up to 40 lbs.
·Frequent bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, or by bending legs at knees and extending hands and arms in any direction are movements required to carry out job duties.
·Must be able to move body fast enough to keep small children from harm
