Customer service, compassion and kindness are priorities for Johnson County Hospital and the Family Medical Center. The Patient Access Registrar is responsible for providing an excellent patient experience by efficiently answering phone calls, collecting and verifying patient demographics and insurance.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
· Creates a positive impression for each patient, family member, visitor or staff while registering, routing or escorting patients, family or visitors.
· Accurately gathers necessary demographic and insurance information for registration on all patients.
· Performs courteous and professional telephone skills and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain rapport with patients, physicians, nursing and all other staff, promoting excellent customer service in every interaction.
· Conducts business according to JCHC policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives and assures compliance with federal and state financial laws, rules, regulations and requirements, as well as professional and industry best practices.
· Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Regulations, as set forth in the adopted JCHC HIPAA policies and procedures, as well as department-specific policies and procedures regarding disclosure and use of Protected Health Information (PHI).
· Conducts Explains consent forms, Patient Rights forms, and other documentation as needed.
· Obtains signatures on the appropriate forms and will respond to all questions in a professional, non-judgmental manner.
· Scheduling appointments accurately, sending detailed messages to nursing staff and other hospital/clinic staff.
· Represents the organization positively within the community.
· Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing in a dynamic, fast paced work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience
· High school graduate or equivalent
· Minimum of six months’ customer service experience
· Keyboarding, office procedure classes and/or experience preferred.
· Knowledge of Insurance, preferred
· Ability to work any day of the week, including holidays, to accommodate customer service needs
