Focal Point has an immediate opportunity for a Fabrication Supervisor! Reporting to the Fabrication Manager, the successful candidate plays a key role in the Focal Point team, providing leadership and supervision to a Fabrication production team and will serve as the link to plant management for the department.
This individual will supervise and facilitate the day-to-day second shift (2:30-10:30pm) activities of the assigned team, intervening as necessary to ensure the team’s goals and results are consistent with company direction. The supervisor will work with the Fabrication employees to develop their full potential through constant communication, training, feedback, and coaching. This role, in conjunction with the team, is responsible for employee safety, product quality, adherence to schedule, productivity, department equipment, and housekeeping.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Plans and directs the activities of all human and physical resources of the assigned Fabrication department to achieve Safety, Quality, and Productivity goals.
- Oversees work order management, material flow, and material handling to ensure efficient utilization of resources.
- Works with employees to maintain a safe work environment, by following defined safety procedures, encouraging involvement, following up on safety concerns, and modeling proper safe behaviors.
- Identifies, develops and implements safety, quality, and productivity best practices across the Fabrication department.
- Utilizes product and process knowledge to provide training to direct reports with a focus on developing a professional and flexible workforce. Ensures appropriate cross training of across all products and processes.
- Accountable for team members’ performance and responsible for employee relations issues, including required discipline.
- Achieves the expected level of quality service by ensuring adherence to company quality standards and proposing improvements to quality procedures based on observations of production process.
- Participates in 8D Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, ISO audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.
- Provides a communication network between direct reports and middle and upper management by facilitating meetings with team members and constant one-on-one interaction.
- Creates and updates processes and systems by analyzing layouts, operating controls and procedures. Champions continuous improvement efforts and works with supporting function to implement change.
- Proactively identify and address areas of opportunity and collaborate across the organization using lean techniques to improve safety and ergonomics, eliminate bottle necks, increase quality, and reduce costs.
- Support the development of new products, custom products, and the continuous support and improvement of existing products by improving the manufacturing processes used to build high quality luminaires.
- Has an understanding of tooling and equipment functions, capabilities, and limitations to influence designs and processes.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience managing and developing a diverse group of workers into a motivated self-improvement based workforce.
- 2-year degree in an engineering, manufacturing, operations, business or related field desired, 4-year degree preferred. Applicable job experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Experience leading and managing groups of 40 or more employees.
- Demonstrated ability to train production employees through hands-on methods.
- Working knowledge of problem solving and root cause analysis techniques.
- Experience with ISO 9000 / 14001 or other Quality programs.
- Lean certification or experience working in and applying lean principles in a manufacturing setting.
- Ability to analyze data and processes to determine optimal procedures to be followed with a goal of obtaining the highest level of quality and productivity.
- Proficient with the use of computer-based tools – ERP (JD Edwards preferred), MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of sheet metal and aluminum extrusion fabrication.
- Experience with CNC, mechanical and hydraulic fabrication machinery.
- Experience with the latest requirements for OSHA compliance.
