In fulfilling this mission, ABS spearheads the adoption of risk-based approaches to develop processes, guidance and requirements focused on safely implementing new technology in the marine and offshore environment.
As a Risk Engineer in the Technology head office of ABS, you will work alongside other experienced risk professionals to facilitate risk assessments on various new technology projects across the ABS organization, to enhance the safety of marine, offshore and alternative energy areas.
Working Schedule:
The position is located in Spring, Texas (greater Houston area). The successful candidate will have the option to work a hybrid schedule with three (3) days in the ABS Headquarters Office located in Spring, Texas, and two (2) days of remote work.
What You Will Do:
- Provide risk and reliability engineering activities for marine and offshore projects utilizing both qualitative and quantitative reliability analysis methods such as HAZID, What-If, HAZOP, FME(C)A, and Fault tree analysis, etc.
- Facilitate risk workshops with ABS staff and external stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and training to ABS staff and clients on risk approaches.
- Develop regulations, Rules and Guides on risk approaches.
- Provide support in the review risk studies submitted to ABS.
Prepare technical reports on findings from risk studies.

What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine, Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering or other related disciplines.
- A minimum of three to five (3 - 5) years of relevant engineering, or industry experience.
Required/Preferred Education Requirements
- Professional certifications and licenses in risk assessment, such as Risk Management Professional, certified risk specialist, etc., are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Command of the English language.
- Proficiency in fundamentals of engineering.
- Ability to extrapolate and make connections between diverse disciplines
- The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive relationships with clients and peers.
- Ability to organize and lead multidisciplinary risk workshops.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and implement logical solutions to complex problems.
- Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.
It Would Be Nice If You Had
Professional or chartered engineer license
Reporting Relationships:
- Reports, as assigned, to a Manager, Staff Consultant, Principal Engineer, or project leader.
- Collaborates with other appropriate organizational elements on assigned tasks and other matters of mutual concern.
Working Conditions
Work will generally be performed in an air-conditioned office environment. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to visit manufacturing plants, remote field sites, or go aboard marine vessels or structures. Work will be non-manual, but the incumbent must be able to walk and climb among equipment and structures. Occasionally may have to lift between 5‒15 pounds.
