Position Summary:
The Control System Engineer is responsible for leading, delivering, developing, and implementing control system projects. The Engineer will design and specify DCS/Logic Solver PLC components and networking requirements, develop functional narratives and system specifications, and create related documents. They will also participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for control system-related issues.
Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required. Registration as a Professional Engineer is desired, but not required.
Key Attributes:
- Participates in the engineering/designing process and selects overall control systems for projects of varying sizes.
- Is responsible for engineering, designing, and selecting control systems in their entirety.
- Should possess the ability to scope and detail the subject system philosophy for large projects.
- Implements company standards, procedures, and tools.
- Must understand and apply all client and safety policies.
Core Competencies:
- Takes technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments.
- Performs specialized technical work, which may involve developing systems engineering, distributed and/or computer controls of processes.
- Establishes basic design and specifications for control systems and associated instrumentation.
- Implements control concepts as required.
- Keeps the Project Leads/Manager informed of scope changes and design deviations.
- Participates in overall control system design work, including installation drawings and details, loop drawings, logic diagrams, and vendor drawings.
- DCS:
- DCS graphics, database, and configuration (preferably Honeywell)
- Familiarity with P&IDs, Logic Diagrams, Cause / Effect matrices, and Functional Narratives
- Test procedure development
- Startup assistance/troubleshooting
- Operations/maintenance training
- PLC / HMI Programming:
- PLC programming (preferably Allen Bradley CLX and PLC5)
- HMI programming (preferably PanelView and RSView)
- Familiarity with P&IDs, Logic Diagrams, Cause / Effect matrices, and Functional Narratives
- Test procedure development
- Startup assistance/troubleshooting
- Operations/maintenance training
- Safety System Logic Solvers
- Logic Solver programming (preferably Triconex Platform)
- Logic Validation Software programming (preferably Schneider Safety Validator)
- Familiarity with P&ID’s, Logic Diagrams, Cause / Effect matrices, and Functional Narratives
- Test procedure development
- Startup assistance/troubleshooting
- Operations/maintenance training
