JOB SUMMARY
The House Supervisor will direct Nursing care by delegating, coordinating, collaborating, and prioritizing hospital wide needs. The incumbent will assess patient needs, plan, implement and evaluate care based on priorities and specific patient care outcomes. Together with the Nursing Care Teams, the House Supervisor will implement standards of care/practices for nursing department. Above all, the House Supervisor will take the initiative to improve all aspects of quality patient care while promoting the mission and vision of the hospital.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess the delivery of nursing care and identify problems through patient care rounds in order to assure the provision of quality care.
- Collaborates with team members for nursing care planning and modifications/revisions of care plan.
- Accountable for the delivery of quality nursing care based on established standards. Delegates care components to appropriate staff members.
- Communicates observations of actual and potential problems as the relate to nursing care in writing on the plan of care, the patients’ medical record and verbally to the healthcare team.
- Reviews plan of care for patients to assure outcomes are met and to assure appropriateness and community.
- Makes consistent rounds to patient care units to assure outcomes are met and to assure appropriateness and community.
- Utilizes knowledge on growth and development patterns in dealing with the adult patient. • Recognizes and acts on priorities of care related to patients.
- Responds promptly and effectively in emergency or critical situations.
- Identifies any malfunction of devices/equipment and follows stipulated procedures for reporting.
- Reviews occurrence reports and resounds in a timely manner to any report.
- Assures compliance with department performance improvement activities in a timely manner.
- Participates in the development of a quality improvement program for the department of nursing.
- Utilizes significant research findings to improve patient care and staff performance.
- Completes assignments in a timely manner.
- Acts as a resource as well as orients new staff members.
- Assures staff meetings are held for staff on assigned shift.
- Attends a minimum of two educational programs yearly that relate to areas of practice, care/case management or quality improvement.
- Maintains a record of educational program attendance based on hospital approved documentation record.
- Evaluates the team’s performance related to patient care delivery and to implementation of standards, policies and procedures in a timely manner.
- Interprets and clarifies nursing service goals, policies, and procedures to nursing personnel and members of other services. Assures compliance with code cart checks, Accuchecks, quality controls and safety monitors.
- Assures that the attending physician and other disciplines receive adequate information regarding the patient’s condition from the nursing staff.
- Demonstrates the ability to resolve conflicts/problems that relate to patients and staff performance in a reasonable and timely manner.
- Consistently keeps all management informed of events, changes in patient’s condition and family/visitor concerns.
- Participates in the development of nursing service goals related to practice.

Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS
- Current Texas Registered Nurse License.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in Hospital / Acute Care Setting
- 2+Yrs. Leadership/Supervisor experience
- BLS, ACLS. Current BLS at time of hire
- Microsoft Office, Outlook intermediate experience
EDUCATION
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
- Current Texas Registered Nurse License.
- BLS, ACLS. Current BLS at time of hire
- PALS certification time of hire
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Demonstrates knowledge of hospital codes and correctly follows procedures to implement codes. • Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Demonstrates clinical competence according to licensure and according to hospital/unit specific standards.
- Meets the attendance policy standards. Complies with hospital policies and procedures.
- Complies with hospital/department Infection Control and Safety Policies.
- Attends appropriate in-service, departmental meeting and mandatory in-services.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested within scope of practice
