We are a medical specialty certifying board serving anesthesiologists. Since 1938, we have been administering certification exams and today we take an innovative approach to certification and continuous learning. We foster practice standards that instill confidence and trust that board-certified anesthesiologists have the knowledge and skills to provide high-quality patient care. Position Description
The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) is seeking an intern currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in machine learning or a related field to support the development of a closed AI environment for pilot testing development of oral exam scenarios, multiple-choice questions, and other assessment-related topics for a national, nonprofit certifying body for anesthesiologists. The pilot testing is designed to advance innovation in assessments and to implement new models that are determined to add value to the physicians we serve and advance the organization’s mission to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. This role is remote with the option to work in Raleigh, N.C. at the ABA’s HQ if a candidate is local.
Education

Current enrollment in a master’s degree program in machine learning or a related field.
Focus Areas

Extractive question answering with some variants, such as multiple-choice and answer extraction.

Image generation (e.g. XRays)

Pipeline creation and output tuning.
Requirements

Experience with finetuning general AI models.

Question/answer modeling experience preferred.

Familiarity with medical knowledge preferred.
Specific Responsibilities
-
Evaluate trained models for their performance, robustness and bias.

Select and use metrics to examine outcomes.

Diagnose and resolve issues data and execution.

Anticipate the organizational implications of machine learning models regarding ethics, bias, privacy, and data protection.

Establish traceability for the outcomes.
Compensation & How to Apply

$25 - $35/hour based on experience.

Up to 40 hours/week from July 1 through Sept. 30, 2024.
