Job Summary:
Responsible for the operation and the staff of the distribution center to ensure maximum efficiency and profitability. Hires, trains, develops and evaluates the performance of branch management and hourly colleagues, with direction from Vice President. Manages the customer service aspects of business and the flow of inbound & outbound product, including promotional, small wares and related products. Ensures adherence to all company policies as well as all state and federal laws.
Essential Functions:

Manages the customer service aspects of business. Ensures clean deliveries to units. Clean deliveries as measured by invoices: standard=90%; goal=95%. Clean deliveries as measured by piece delivered: standard=99.7%; goal=99.80%. Responds to all customer requests within 24 hours. Important issues which cannot be easily resolved at the branch level, or have potential system-wide impact, are brought to the immediate attention of the Vice President for further discussion and resolution. Conducts periodic surveys of customer satisfaction. Provides feedback and goals to staff and measures improvement.

Monitors flow of scheduled inbound product ordered centrally and locally. Reviews all electronic purchase orders and troubleshoots overdue purchase order listing from both vendor and corporate. Assists with maintaining inventory turn ratio and fill rate: standard=99.50%; goal=99.90%, and controls shrinkage. Inventory adjustment standard=0.02 case; goal= .0.01 case.

Hires, orientates and trains driver, warehouse and office staff. Actively recruits the best qualified candidates. Follows all steps in the screening and hiring process and maintains employment level (including casual staff) at budgeted projection. Ensures low level of turnover: standard =15%; goal=10%. Completes new hire paperwork accurately and timely. Makes time and resources available for proper training of the staff.

Demonstrates leadership qualities and supervises branch staff through the appropriate use of communication, delegation, follow up, performance evaluation and positive reinforcement to ensure direction is implemented properly. Conducts meetings with staff on a regular basis sending meeting minutes to Corporate. Conducts performance reviews, both formal and informal, to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of the staff and to acknowledge their strengths. Also conducts driver ride-alongs: standard= 1 ride-along with each driver in branch annually; and warehouse visits: standard=2 visits to either afternoon or midnight shift per 4-week period. Utilizes effective problem solving and decision-making skills. Listens to opinions of staff and generates appropriate solutions to resolve employee moral issues. Provides recognition and positive reinforcement.

Ensures all company policies and work rules are followed and implemented consistently to ensure a workplace free of discrimination and labor law violations. Implements discipline in a consistent and fair manner. Seeks proper approval prior to termination. Coordinates activities associated with payroll, unemployment, workers compensation, disability and other personnel related matters. Budgets for and develops action plans to achieve budgeted cost controls and profitability goals. Monitors daily, weekly and period-end sales and cost control figures. Generates appropriate solutions to achieve goals. Communicates results to staff and sets appropriate goals. Generates innovative ideas to improve efficiency and profitability of branch. Maximizes truck and labor potential by establishing routes to maintain proper truck utilization: standard=72 hours per week; goal=100 hours per week, and meeting goal for cubes per truck and average load weight. Maintains ideal store processing time: standard =50 minutes per store; goal=45 minutes per store and/or 8,000 – 10,000 cases processed per warehouse person. Schedules drivers and warehouse personnel according to set labor hours prescribed.

Maintains work environment that is safe, secure and in compliance with government laws, DOT, FDA, OSHA and company policies. Ensures compliance and use of XATA computer hardware. Ensures all accident report procedures are properly followed. Ensures that all drivers pass pre-employment tests as required by driver corporate. Ensures facility is clean, organized, properly maintained and free of OSHA violations. Ensures maintenance of all warehouse equipment and security systems, i.e., doors locked, alarms functioning properly. Obtains an excellent rating (3 Star Award Standard 4/ Star Award Goal) from Quality Assurance department and the American Institute of Baking (AIB) for the branch: standard=excellent rating; goal=superior rating.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Four years of experience in food service distribution industry.

Two-four years supervisory experience.

Possess basic computer skills.

Knowledge of DOT, FDA, and OSHA regulations.

Excellent communications skills, the ability to lead and motivate colleagues.

Good writing skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

College degree in related field, e.g., transportation, materials and logistics, management, etc.

Five years food warehouse distribution and/or trucking experience.
Working Conditions:

Acceptable working conditions. Some distractions due to elements occasionally present.

Working conditions less desirable than found in offices.
