St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. seeks a full-time faculty member to join the Fine Arts Department in the 2024-25 school year. St. John's teachers are creative and passionate about their subject. Candidates must be able to develop and implement pedagogical practices that connect the subject to secondary level students and motivate them to a clear understanding of the course content. Position Summary:
- teaching four to five sections of Ceramics and 3D Design class, from beginning levels through AP 3D Design, and the ability and willingness to teach the Foundations level course
- working closely with colleagues in the Art Department and throughout the school
- maintaining good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents' inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
- has experience teaching 3D Design, Ceramics, and/or Sculpture at the high school level in independent and/or Catholic schools
- possesses a bachelor's degree in studio art or a related field, with an MFA desired but not required
- has a strong commitment to students and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner
- demonstrates knowledge of mixed media sculpture, 3D design curriculum, hand building, wheel throwing, ceramic and surface decoration, and glaze application
