POSITION TITLE: Fire Sprinkler Design Manager
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager
DEPARTMENT: Fire Sprinkler Installation and Maintenance

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This individual will lead the design team. He or she will help guide the design and create the finished representation for the sprinkler systems using drawings, drafting skills, and tools. The drawings produced will be used as a guide by every other link in the construction chain, on-site, and in the office. The senior designer will have responsibility for the planning of a project, including creating a material stock list as needed, analyzing changes, solving problems, and total delivery of the project according to established criteria. Close coordination with the Project Management team and Estimating Department will be required throughout the life of the project.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS/DUTIES
- Acts as Player/Coach for and within the Design Team
- Available as a software how-to resource
- Design standard implementation
- Design standard training
- Studies, teaches, and creates AutoSPRINK software standards
- Monitors job scope review/clarification
- Review customer source control drawings, specification control drawings, and other applicable specifications to determine the requirements and/or feasibility of the product.
- Draw rough sketches and perform mathematical computations to develop the design and work out detailed specifications of components.
- Perform preliminary and advanced work in developing working layouts and final master drawings, adequate for detailing parts and units of design for new proposals and current designs.
- Make revisions to the size, shape, and arrangement of parts to create practical design drawings.
- Participate in engineering and general design reviews as required.
- Prepare acceptance test procedures and assembly instructions.
- Interact with vendors and customers on engineering design issues.
- Mentor less experienced designers and drafters.
- Check the design work of Designers / Design Trainees, including layout, form, fit, function, materials, specification callouts, geometrics, dimensioning, and other output as directed.
- Keep supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress related to work assignments.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of Fire Sprinkler design related work
- Associate degree
- 10 years AutoCAD experience
- NICET Level III Certification
- Working knowledge of computer skills related to the position
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Good problem-solving skills
- Ability to teach others
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
