We are looking for Head Start Lead and Assistant Teachers. This position performs duties planning and implementing educational activities for pre-school-aged children in the Head Start Program that comply with federal performance standards. During non-student contact time, this position is responsible for assisting teachers in the development and teaching of standard-based curricula, aligning Head Start Lead and Assistant Teachers. materials and resources for appropriate curriculum outcomes.

All Classroom Teacher Responsibilities:
· Plan, develop and implement daily lesson plans that provide for educational and enrichment activities for preschool age children that meet federal performance standards.
· Plan and arrange the classroom into distinctive learning areas that promote an effective learning environment.
· Assess preschool-aged children to determine developmental/educational needs and develop and implement individual education plans that comply with federal and program performance standards.
· Monitor meal and snack periods, classroom and restroom activities, and playground activities to ensure a safe environment for all children.
· Document children's progress or lack thereof and complete all required manual and computerized forms and reports in accordance with federal and program requirements.
· Plan classroom activities for parent and community volunteers.
· Attend and participate in workshops and other meetings to acquire and disseminate information.
· Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor
· Remain in constant communication with parents and update them on the progress of their children.
· Adhere to teaching standards and safety regulations as established by the programmatic compliance agencies.
· Communicate with parents through parent conferences, written correspondence, and telephone to apprise them of the child's progress, upcoming events, classroom activities, individual education plan changes, and other relevant information.
· Conduct health checks on children for health concerns, including ringworm, head lice or other health conditions, and reports to appropriate nurse.
· Report suspected child abuse and neglect to the designated state agency.
· Plan, coordinate, and oversee field trips for assigned children.
· Request supplies and equipment to be ordered for use by children in the classroom.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood education.
· Working knowledge of behavior modification theories and practices relating to early childhood development.
· Knowledge of current educational techniques and practices relating to early childhood development.
· Skill in making presentations to groups.
· Skill in verbal communication with pre-school age children.
· Ability to resolve conflicts between pre-school age children.
· Ability to plan, organize and implement early childhood education curriculums.
· Ability to assume a seated position on the floor for extended periods of time.
· Ability to collect, organize, and evaluate data and develop logical conclusions.
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
· Ability to prepare and maintain work-related reports and files.
· Ability to handle confidential information.
· Ability to use a computer and related software.
· Ability to follow established procedures.
· Ability to administer CPR and First Aid
· Ability to implement safety procedures.
· Ability to work effectively with others.
· Ability to provide physical assistance in the transportation of special needs children.
· Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds.
Minimum Additional Qualifications – Specified Positions:
Head Start Teachers
· Plans, develops, and implements daily lesson plans for preschool-age children's educational and enrichment activities that
meet federal performance standards.
· Plans and arranges classrooms into distinctive learning areas that promote an effective learning environment.
· Screens and assesses preschool-aged children to determine developmental/educational needs and develops and implements individual education plans that comply with federal performance standards.
Qualifications: Lead Teachers or Assistant Teachers
· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in Early Childhood Education or a related field with 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education; Obtained an Associate's or Bachelor Degree AND
· One year of experience teaching Head Start, Early Head Start, preschool or kindergarten-age children; AND
· Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Infant/Toddlers or Preschool Course (10 hours); AND
· Introductory Child Care Training (30‐hours); AND
· Child Growth and Development (6‐hours); AND
· Behavioral Observation & Screening (6‐hours); AND
· Health, Safety & Nutrition (8‐hours); AND
· Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (4‐hours); AND
· Child Care Facility Rules and Regulations (6‐hours).
· 40-hour childcare training as required by the State of Florida and meet all requirements of the Hillsborough County Code of Ordinances and Laws.
· One year of experience in teaching Head Start, Early Head Start, pre-school or kindergarten age children (highly recommended).
Head Start Teacher Assistant
- Assists teachers with developing and implementing lesson plans and literacy and daily enrichment activities to promote individual
child development.
- Assists in ordering and preparing materials and supplies for planned activities.
- Arranges classrooms for program activities to provide a proper learning environment.
- Assists in the monitoring of children during all activities where adult help is needed.
Qualification:
· Associate or higher degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or degree in any field with 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education;
OR
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate; AND
- Obtain within 90 days of employment 40 clock hours from the Florida Department of Children and Families; AND
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; AND Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Infant/Toddlers or Preschoolers Course (10-hours); AND
- Introductory Child Care Training (30-hours); AND
- Child Growth and Development (6-hours); AND
- Behavioral Observation & Screening (6-hours); AND
- Health, Safety & Nutrition (8 hours); Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (4-hours); AND
- Child Care Facility Rules and Regulations (6 hours).
All positions – additional requirements:
Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes).
