Position Summary
A student supportive care counselor is responsible for identifying the students' strengths and challenges through one-on-one counseling and establishing solutions to help them overcome difficulties and achieve their educational goals and aspirations. Student support counselors assist the faculty in determining appropriate programs and activities to develop the students' capabilities, especially as a way of preparing them with their career objectives. They also coordinate with the students' families for extended guidance and support for their growth and development.
- Maintains established agency policies and procedures, confidentiality standards, performance improvement initiatives, safety, environment of care, productivity standards, management of information, and infection control standards.
- Utilizes excellent customer service skills at all times.
- Completes diagnostic assessments that take into account factors such as age, developmental or acquired disabilities, religion and spiritual orientation, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, indigenous heritage, national origin, and gender, in compliance with documentation guidelines.
- Accurate documentation of the intake material and rationale leading to diagnostic conclusions.
- Coordination of obtaining background information and records with previous providers of services and other state/community departmental staff, physicians, case management coordinators, and other resource agencies involved in the referral as required.
- Provides case management activities to facilitate coordination of initial information gathering for the intake as required.
- Initiates and facilitate crisis prevention and intervention; providing emergency crisis services as needed and assigned. May sign off on crisis situations at the supervisor level, as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in any field and 2 years' relevant experience
- High school diploma or GED with 4 years' of behavioral health education, training, or experience will also be considered
