RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes but not limited to the following:
1. Help the primary care provider stay on time through effective implementation of the daily schedule.
2. Obtain and document vital signs-including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, weight, height, waist circumference, Capillary Blood Glucose (CBG) level, oxygen saturation (O2 Sat), hemoglobin (Hgb), and peak flow.
3. Obtain and document information on new patients, e.g., patient health, social and medical histories, add reported medications.
4. Instruct patients on preparation for complete physical examination.
5. Collect, label, and process laboratory samples (e.g., Pap smears, stool cards, urine samples, etc.) according to written protocols/policies and procedures.
6. Assist the PCP with injections, and minor surgical procedures e.g., removal of benign cyst.
7. Clean/disinfect/sterilize instruments daily.
8. Set up the medical examination rooms and clean-up after every patient, e.g., dispose of exam table paper, replace with new paper, wipe down exam table, properly dispose of waste and instruments.
9. Administer/complete ear lavage per process.
10. Maintain the stock of necessary medical supplies in the assigned examination rooms.
11. Maintain medical supplies inventory according to established policies and procedures.
12. Prepare the electronic chart for the PCP encounter with the patient, i.e., ensuring appropriate documentation (e.g., laboratory test reports, specialty consultation reports, past medical records, etc.) is scanned prior to the scheduled appointment.
13. Administer immunizations, and vaccinations according to WNCCHS Policy
14. As requested, prepare the patient for EKG procedures—including placement of EKG leads.
15. Notify patients or their legal guardian of laboratory and diagnostic test results according to written protocols/policies and procedures.
16. As requested by PCP/supervisor, relay messages and otherwise facilitate communications to and from patients and/or their caregivers.
17. Call prescriptions to the appropriate pharmacy
18. Assist the clinical staff with triage duties, including taking and conveying messages accurately and in a timely manner.
19. Participate in clinical quality management activities.
20. Functions as a preceptor to Medical Assistants
21. Maintains competence in phlebotomy skills, with annual competency verification.
22. Manages laboratory specimens, e.g., satellite locations, and mobile unit.
23. Assist with medication refills per protocol.
24. Assist with laboratory ordering per protocol.
25. Occasionally, the supervisor may assign other appropriate work-related duties and responsibilities.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prefer a Certified Medical Assistant (NHA, AAMA)
- Minimum of one year as Medical Assistant in an outpatient health care setting
- Phlebotomy certification
- Current Basic Life Support (CPR) Certificate required
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
