We are partnering with our client to assist with their search for a Scientific Software Engineering Generalist. Our client is an independent, national nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders. They work to deliver the highest standards of care, advance the science of the developing brain, and empower parents, professionals, and policymakers to support children when and where they need it most.
The Scientific Engineering Generalist responsibilities include developing, building, and maintaining data collection experiments; writing code for scientific experiments, developing training resources; contacting, interacting, and collaborating with equipment vendors; testing and benchmarking different equipment/experiments; performing data quality control; and calibrating equipment. The Scientific Engineering Generalist will work closely with lead scientists, research assistants, and MoBI software engineering team, and other research cores. This position will regularly involve collaboration with other groups both within and beyond the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and build MoBI experiments.
- Develop software to combine data from different equipment using Lab Streaming Layer (LSL).
- Purchase of scientific and computational equipment.
- Develop and implement quality control metrics of MoBI data.
- Perform calibration and maintenance of equipment.
- Assist in programming cognitive tasks for a variety of scientific use cases.
- Write and contribute to effective well-documented protocols.
- Share code to GitHub, or equivalent, repositories for version control.
- Prototype MoBI experiments in iterative collaboration with the research team.
- Serve as an internal resource to scientific and clinical teams with engineering needs at the organization and collaborating centers.
Qualifications:
- Expertise (5+ years of experience) in one data modality of MoBI: MRI, EEG, physiological measures, eye-tracking, developing computer-based tasks, or ecological assessments is preferred.
- Experience working independently with hardware and scientific equipment.
- Programming experience in a combination of Python (including the scientific Python ecosystem), R, C++, C#, Javascript, Matlab, bash scripting, or equivalent and similarly popularly used libraries.
- Comfortable working in Unix/Linux environments.
- Knowledge of computer network protocols (i.e. TCP/IP).
- Knowledge of Software versioning (i.e. GitHub).
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Highly collaborative.
- Strong problem-solving skills, detail oriented and organized.
- MSc or above in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, or a related field is preferred.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $82,600 - $112,000annually. Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and geography.
