The Research Assistant (RA) – Rehabilitation at Home (RAH) will support a study looking at the efficacy of receiving skilled nursing facility-level care at home as a substitute for traditional facility-based care.
The study involves supporting a multisite randomized controlled trial in Boston. Patients who have been hospitalized and require skilled nursing facility (SNF) rehabilitation care may be eligible to instead receive their care in their own home with the specialized RAH team. This study has the potential to entirely change the way we deliver health care to millions of older adults each year. The RA will work directly with providers, care teams, patients, and their families. The RA must be comfortable traveling to and operating in a hospital setting.. The RA will support screening, recruitment, enrollment, data collection, data analysis, presentations, literature reviews, and possibly manuscript preparation.
The patient population will include young adults from age 18 through geriatric patients age 65 and older.
Duties:
Assist with study preparation, including the IRB, electronic health record, REDCap, data collection systems, supplies and logistics, and other tasks.
Perform screening, support recruitment and enrollment in the hospital.
Perform data collection in the hospital. Must be comfortable traveling to and carrying out study tasks alone in the hospital setting.
Assist with data abstraction from a variety of sources including patient medical records, hospital clinical information systems, and stakeholder transcripts.
Assist with qualitative interviews.
Assist with data analysis.
Utilize RedCap, MS Excel, and other database tools to assist in data collection efforts, database development, data cleaning, and descriptive data analysis so data can be analyzed by a statistician
Perform literature searches and possibly assist with manuscript preparation.
Help with the preparation of talks and presentation materials including PowerPoint slides, tables, and graphs.
Assist with grant progress reports and IRB submissions.
Set up team/stakeholder meetings and take minutes.
Schedule conference calls and in-person meetings; prepare agendas and pre-meeting materials; prepare meeting minutes
Assist the project manager in project management by taking minutes, tracking milestones, etc.
Qualifications:
BA/BS degree preferred
Interest in healthcare, quality and safety of healthcare processes, and the use of technology to support clinical care.
Certification in the protection of human research subjects (can be obtained after hire).
Competency in Microsoft Office suite required.
Language proficiency in Haitian Creole, Portuguese, or Spanish language preferred, but not required. Comfortable using hospital and external interpreter services.
Familiarity with biostatistics concepts preferred, but not required.
Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license preferred, but not a requirement.
Experience with data management, including using word-processing, spreadsheet, REDCap and EndNote preferred.
Familiar with qualitative methods preferred.
