JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: Shelby County YMCA
Job Title: Child Watch Attendant
Reports to: Program Director
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Program Director, and in keeping with the established policies and procedures of the YMCA, the Child Watch Attendant assumes the responsibility for the overall daily operation of the site, including the supervision, management, and safety of children. The Child Watch Attendant will work with staff to provide a program, which fosters children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth. The Child Watch Attendant will help provide a supportive and welcoming atmosphere for all individuals.
KNOW HOW:
Must be at least 16 years of age or older and have basic knowledge of working with children. At least 2 years’ experience working with children. Must have a current Indiana driver’s license. In addition, the position requires Child Abuse Prevention along with current
CPR, AED and first aid training within 90 days of employment.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

3. Understand the needs of, and be able to effectively care for children.
4. Have the ability to work well with children in cooperation with staff and parents of participants.
5. Must have strong communication skills, practical and strong decision-making skills, versatility, initiative, and strong human relations skills.
6. Attend all staff meetings for department.
7. Build and maintain relationships with volunteers, other staff, and members.
8. Learn and maintain policies and procedures as they apply to the program.
9. Be responsible for the safety of the children at all times.
10. Be responsible for the daily record keeping and adherence to the program.
11. Oversee the daily cleanliness and organization of the space and facility.
12. Follow the guidelines in the Employee Handbook.
13. Assume other duties as directed by YMCA administration.
14. Report ALL accidents in the Child Watch area or on premises in writing and to the
Program Director and/or the Branch Executive Director.
15. Arrive on time dressed professionally - staff shirt, or presentable shirt with staff name- tag visible. Shorts or presentable trousers, preferably solid color.
16. To complete YMCA orientation, Child Abuse and CPR/first aid training within 90 days of employment.
17. Maintain a positive attitude about the YMCA both on and off premises.
EFFECTS ON END RESULTS:
The effectiveness of performance in this position can be judged by:
1. Overall cleanliness and organization of the Child Watch area.
2. Maintenance and/or increased attendance and quality of programs in the child watch area.
3. Positive member feedback.
4. Attitude toward: members, position, and staff.
5. Demonstration of YMCA Character Values.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $9.00 - $11.00 per hour
