GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The EKG technician is responsible for assisting the Nuclear Technologist in performing diagnostic cardiovascular stress testing examinations safely. Cardiac stress testing is a noninvasive study that provides information about the patient’s cardiac function.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/EXPECTATIONS:
- Assist in the daily workflow of the Nuclear Medicine Department to maintain Patient safety and efficiency.
- Correctly identifies patients adhering to HIPAA guidelines
- Reviews EMR and properly identifies testing orders, diagnosis and patient consent on file.
- Properly identifies patients who are candidates for pharmacological stress testing.
- Demonstrates proficiency operating Exercise Testing System and abiding by protocol (ECG and Treadmill). Appropriately monitors and stops stress testing based on patient’s ECG, verbal, physical and emotional condition and/or physician’s order.
- Monitors and evaluates patient during recovery period.
- Notifies Nuclear Medicine Technologist for radiotracer injection through IV line.
- Assists cardiology staff in getting patients on/off camera, exam bed, treadmill.
- Performs other tasks as required for the effective and efficient functioning of the Practice when directed to do so by Supervisory and Managerial personnel.

PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Work may require sitting and/or standing for long periods with lifting, pushing and pulling in excess of 50lbs. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and fax machine. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in normal range for telephone contacts.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a fast-paced office environment. Involves frequent contact with physicians, staff, and patients, work may be stressful at times. Ability to cross cover/travel to all office locations is a requirement. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and hazardous materials. Exposure to radiation will occur daily. Must have valid driver’s license and reliable motor vehicle.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, High School diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology or similar course of studies. Minimum of two years medical office experience preferred but not required. Basic life support certification required, and basic ECG interpretation preferred.
