TITLE: EMT Cohort Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Assistant Chief of EMS

SUMMARY
The EMT Cohort Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that EMT to Paramedic Cohort employees are thoroughly prepared to meet the operational standards and expectations of MCHD. This role involves providing continuous support and guidance to EMT Cohort employees throughout their paramedic education. Additionally, the EMT Cohort Supervisor serves as the primary liaison between EMT Cohort employees and the affiliated educational institution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Establish and maintain a strong, collaborative relationship with the affiliated educational institution that provides EMT to Paramedic instruction and training.
- Act as the primary point of contact to ensure seamless communication and coordination between MCHD and the institution, addressing any issues or concerns promptly and facilitating the smooth operation of the EMT to Paramedic Cohort Program.

Collaborate with the Assistant Chief of EMS, Division Chief of Clinical Services, Deputy Chiefs, District Chiefs, and Human Resources to ensure that employees meet MCHD's clinical standards and operational expectations, fostering a supportive and compliant work environment.

Partner with the Assistant Chief of EMS, Deputy Chiefs, District Chiefs, and Human Resources to monitor EMTs during their evaluation period of employment prior to attending paramedic training.
- Conduct comprehensive performance assessments to determine their suitability for MCHD's sponsorship of paramedic training, ensuring alignment with the organization's standards and expectations.

Work collaboratively with MCHD accounting department, Cohort employees and the educational institution to manage and process financial payments efficiently.

Act as the administrative liaison between the affiliated educational institution and cohort employees, facilitating registration, admission, and other administrative processes for the paramedic training program.

Audit EMT to Paramedic course work by affiliated educational institution, and provide feedback as needed.

Collaborate with the educational institution to actively and continually identify and engage at-risk MCHD paramedic students, providing support as needed.

Provide continuous oversight of EMT Cohort employee academic performance through routine academic checks.

If requested, participate in hiring and on-boarding EMT Cohort Employees.

Determine EMT to Paramedic Cohort continuing education needs based upon feedback from MCHD Department of Clinical Services Education, Deputy Chiefs, and Quality Department.

Work collaboratively with the Education Supervisor to provide targeted CE to EMT employees.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage EMT Cohort schedule for both classes and clinical shifts.
- Serve as a mentor and point of contact for EMT to Paramedic Cohort Employees.

Responsible for the direction, guidance, coordination, and evaluation of the EMT’s while enrolled in paramedic training.
- Participate in MCHD EMT Course instruction when requested.

Provide a mid-term academic report for each employee participating in the MCHD sponsored paramedic program to EMS Command staff.
- Prepare and present end-of-semester reports to Command Staff detailing each employee's academic performance, ensuring accurate and comprehensive documentation to support ongoing professional development and performance management.

Maintain clinical authorization as a PRN field employee as outlined in FOG 007-03.10 PRN Employees.
- Field time outside of their normal scheduled administrative hours should be clocked-in for that assignment.
- These hours may only be clocked-in and paid as an active second crewmember that is filling a vacancy and not as a third rider.

Other duties as necessary that are reasonably consistent with the above.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and manage EMT employees in the Cohort program, ensuring all actions are performed in compliance with the organization's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Duties include, but are not limited to strategic planning, planning work schedules, administering employee discipline, assigning and directing tasks, appraising performance, managing performance, employee performance reporting, addressing complaints, and resolving workplace issues. This role is focused on managerial and supervisory responsibilities associated with the EMT Cohort Program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Current certification as an EMT-Paramedic by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Current authorization as an Attendant Paramedic or must obtain this authorization within six months of employment.

Previous managerial experience in the healthcare sector preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Proficient word processing, desktop publishing, and presentation skills required.

Moderate database and spreadsheet skills required.

Basic Email and internet skills required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Current Texas Driver's License.

Remain insurable by the current insurance vendor of MCHD.

Required NIMS Training as referenced in the Safety & Emergency Management Policy SEM 27-201.
