General Description
Under general supervision of the Executive Director of Facilities or designee, the Maintenance and Operations Manager oversees the staff and day to day operations of the centralized maintenance, operations, and grounds personnel.
Primary responsibilities may include:
Department and Staff Supervision
- Establishes good working relationship with Maintenance and Operations staff. Serves as supervisor and evaluator of maintenance and operations staff.
- Develops and oversees procedures and systems to properly fulfill all work orders assigned to the department in an efficient and timely manner.
- Oversees, tracks and monitors the daily completion of assigned work orders. Addresses incomplete work orders immediately.
- Supervises the accountability process to ensure all work orders are properly completed and accounted for in the work order system on a daily basis.
- Supervises and evaluates staff and makes recommendations for hiring and promotion.
- Ensures that staff install, repair and maintain district property to the highest expectation, including, but not limited to, machines, mechanical systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC), vehicles, buildings and other structures.
- Coordinates proactive and ongoing maintenance plans (battery replacement, filter changes, etc.)
- Organizes and manages all equipment and material needed to set up and take down district-level events.
- Provides support to skilled and maintenance workers in completing work orders.
- Oversees the purchasing of day-to-day materials and supplies to complete work orders.
Safety and Site Support
- Provides training and regular support to the Plant Managers as they oversee the maintenance and operations at the comprehensive school sites.
- Coordinates and supports the safety functions of the school district. Conducts routine inspections of all district facilities, looking for potential maintenance and safety concerns.
- Ensures that all district sites adhere to safety guidelines and rules; conducts safety inspections and trainings; supports safety meetings, and coordinates safety resources and supplies.
Performs related duties as assigned. The person in this position may be called into work for any emergencies and may be required to work extended hours. The person in this position must maintain regular and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and terminology used in various building trades and grounds keeping work; building construction practices, and local and State laws affecting the construction and repair of school buildings; safe work practices and safety regulation; principles and techniques of management.
- Basic competency in word processing and spreadsheet software programs.
- Ability to quickly learn new software programs, (the current District work order system.)
- Ability to plan, document and organize the work involved in maintaining school facilities; direct the work of others effectively, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test on a random and recurring basis.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree preferred

Physical Demands:

- Lift, carry, push or pull items with a strength factor of up to 50 pounds
- Hear and speak in audible tones to exchange information in person or on the telephone
- Have mobility sufficient to move about, stand, and/or sit for extended periods, and access all locations in the work environment
- Have flexibility and strength to reach with hands and arms, reach above shoulder level as necessary, and be able to bend and stoop
- Ability to drive to all district sites and to necessary meetings and conferences
- Frequent evening and weekend work and meetings, ability to respond and deal with emergency situations at all centralized sites.
