Job Description:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Male Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide personalized care and support to a high-functioning outgoing individual with developmental disabilities. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing the individual's quality of life by promoting independence, fostering social interaction, and ensuring their overall well-being.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement personalized support plans tailored to the individual's needs, preferences, and goals.
2. Assist the individual with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks, while encouraging independence and skill development.
3. Facilitate community integration and participation in social and recreational activities, promoting opportunities for meaningful interactions and relationships.
4. Provide emotional support and encouragement, fostering a positive and nurturing environment that enhances the individual's self-esteem and confidence.
5. Monitor and document the individual's progress, behaviors, and any changes in their health or well-being, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
6. Collaborate effectively with the individual's family members, healthcare professionals, and other support staff to ensure a holistic approach to care.
7. Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations governing the provision of services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
8. Maintain confidentiality and respect the individual's privacy rights at all times.
9. Respond calmly and effectively to challenging behaviors or crisis situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques and appropriate interventions as needed.
10. Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and training to enhance your skills and knowledge in the field of developmental disabilities support.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in human services, psychology, or a related field preferred.
2. Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships.
4. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting individuals with disabilities in achieving their full potential.
5. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with flexibility to adapt to changing needs and schedules.
6. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
7. Must pass background checks and drug screening as required by state regulations.
