POSITION SUMMARY:
The Shipping Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing all shipping operations within the warehouse. This role ensures the timely, accurate, and cost-effective dispatch of goods, maintaining high standards of customer service and operational efficiency. The Shipping Lead will coordinate with various departments, oversee the productivity and development of the picking, packing & shipping team members, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Oversee Daily Operations:
- Ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment by managing daily shipping activities.
- Process and ship orders to meet internal metrics while minimizing labor waste.
Supervision and Training:
- Supervise and train the picking, packing, and shipping team, fostering a productive and safe work environment.
- Participate in the training of new employees and assist in their onboarding.
Coordination:
- Work closely with inventory control, production, and customer service teams to streamline processes.
- Be a cross-functional leader, collaborating with other departments such as production, maintenance, inventory management, and quality assurance.
Cost Monitoring:
- Monitor shipping costs and implement strategies to optimize expenses.
- Manage and audit inventory processes to maintain optimal code rotation on all finished goods inventories.
Compliance:
- Ensure all shipping activities comply with company policies, safety regulations, and legal requirements.
- Maintain a clean and safe shipping area, focusing on food and employee safety.
- Maintain an injury-free workplace and actively participate in the plant safety committee.
Record Maintenance:
- Maintain accurate records of shipments and prepare regular reports for management.
Troubleshooting:
- Address and resolve issues related to shipping delays, damages, or discrepancies.
Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate and improve shipping processes to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Analyze and standardize procedures to improve departmental efficiency.
Order Processing:
- Prepare and ship pallet orders for key customers, ensuring compliance with all vendor specifications.
Expertise:
- Become a subject matter expert in all shipping operations functions, including retail, wholesale, and truck shipments.
- Execute warehouse automation and improve labor efficiency.
Daily Staffing:
- Assign and move workforce to meet all departmental goals in both productivity and customer service.
- Achieve determined rates for all non-hard goods products.
- Establish processes within the department to achieve the “wow” factor for customer service – both internal and external customers.
- Achieve customer complaint goal to not exceed 3.0 complaints per million units.
Systems:
- Learn and successfully execute all necessary responsibilities within the building operating systems, including ERP solutions, and picking robots.
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Excel and email platforms.
Building or Developing the Organization and Our People:
- Assist in training new hires on all policies, procedures, and work requirements upon onboarding.
- Assist in establishing processes to promote teamwork and collaboration.
- Be willing to perform each shipping operations position to learn, grow, establish good working relationships with the team, and help meet department goals with the daily workload.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics or supply chain management is a plus.
- 3 or more years of experience in a shipping or logistics role, with leadership experience preferred.
- Certified forklift trainer or willingness to obtain certification.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and team management abilities.
- Proficient with shipping software and warehouse management systems.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Manual Dexterity: Possess the ability to handle and manipulate objects with precision and control.
- Lifting: Able to lift 50 lbs. independently multiple times daily.
- Mobility: Able to stand or walk for prolonged periods, and able to stoop and bend, as necessary.
