A CAD Drafter is responsible for creating 2D drawings and 3D models of products using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Drafters coordinate and consult with engineers or designers to complete projects, transform initial rough product designs into working documents using CAD software, specify correct dimensions and material types, and maintain deadlines, goals, and production standards set by the department. They also collaborate with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Create detailed technical drawings and plans using CAD software such as AutoCAD Mechanical, Electrical and Inventor.
· Collaborate with engineers to understand project requirements and specifications.
· Develop 2D and 3D models of components and assemblies for mechanical design and electrical projects.
· Ensure accuracy and adherence to industry standards in all drawings and designs.
· Review and revise drawings based on feedback from project teams.
· Prepare documentation, including schematics, bills of materials, and technical specifications.
· Make duplicate drawings based on original designs (i.e. take generator 1 drawings and create duplicate drawings for generator 2, 3, 4, etc. with correct nomenclature).
· Other duties as assigned.
Competencies:
· Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, MicroStation, and Revit.
· Proficiency in MS Office programs such as Word, Excel & Outlook.
· Strong knowledge of drafting techniques and standards.
· Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in drafting work.
· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
· Ability to understand instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule format.
· Ability to perform basic math in various units of measure using fractions, decimals and/or whole units.
Have a general understanding of ANSI and IEC symbols.
