The Senior Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in New York, New York will lead analysis of product requirements, design solutions, enhance systems, and automate existing processes to improve usability. Re-engineer legacy applications by selectively de-normalizing parts of model for performance using SQL. Perform application analysis, identify project objectives, business context, and technical drivers, and design appropriate solutions. Interpret c4 model architecture diagrams, use case modeling, and align to project application flow. Leverage application and data services for hassle-free maintenance and fetching real time data. Develop key functionalities of build listener component, micro-app and micro-service using JavaScript, React JS, Node JS, TypeScript, Java, Spring, Linux, shell scripts, and Python. Configure deployment tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, ELK, terraform by adhering to CI/CD practices. Write database schemas and terraform scripts to deploy RDS MySQL database and configuring application to connect to database for data manipulation. Rewrite legacy batch jobs in Spring batch by mavenizing, migrating from Unix to Linux, and automating deployment process. Utilize various unit testing tools like Mockito, Jest, Kevlar for unit testing and integration testing. Improve code quality and maintain efficient quality gate metrics using static analysis tools like SonarQube. Engage with Product owner to translate business requirements into technical requirements. Provide feedback to junior developers during code reviews. Telecommuting permitted up to 3 days per week. Salary: $124,551- $213,850 per year.
Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in information technology, computer science, software engineering, or a related field, plus 1 year (or a bachelor’s degree plus 5 years) of experience as a software engineer or in a related occupation. Experience must include 1 year with each of the following: (1) Java, JavaScript, .NET, and Python; (2) public cloud and associated technologies, including AWS, Azure, and containerization; (3) RDS, EC2, S3, ELK, ELB, and CloudWatch; (4) deployment tools including Kubernetes, Docker, Maven, Autosys, SonarQube, and Jenkins; (5) software methodologies including Scrum, Waterfall, Open Unified Process, Defining own Process Framework; and (6) Code versioning platforms GitLab and GitHub, and automated testing using Mockito, Jest, Kevlar, JMeter, and Jacoco.
