CreativeWorks College and Career Pathway Specialist
JOB DESCRIPTION
The College and Career Pathway Specialist is a compassionate and youth-centered individual who serves as the primary point of participant contact for CreativeWorks participants to provide integrated career and academic planning. CreativeWorks (CW) is a workforce development program that provides comprehensive training and support for young adults ages 17-24 in digital media, theater technology, performing arts, and life skills. We are committed to equipping participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in these industries and successfully transition into meaningful careers.
JOE’S MOVEMENT EMPORIUM (WORLD ARTS FOCUS) is an arts organization is based in Mount Rainier, MD in Prince George’s County. As a cultural arts hub, we are building health and wealth through artist services, arts education, and job training.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced College and Career Pathway Specialist to join our team. The specialist will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting program participants as they navigate their educational and career pathways. The ideal candidate will have strong and proven experience in workforce development, data tracking, teaching expertise, and a strong background in partnerships and human services. This full-time position requires a flexible schedule, as some evening and weekend work may be necessary. The Specialist will work closely with program participants to help them develop the necessary skills, knowledge, and connections required for success in their chosen fields.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Career Pathways Specialist provides and tracks individual and group career development services for CW participants and alumni. The individual will assist in the creation, implementation, execution, and evaluation of a comprehensive career development program, and must demonstrate world-class customer service. In addition, the Specialist will work with partners, peers, business leaders, community-based organizations, and educational partners to assess opportunities and drive innovative talent development programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Career planning and maintenance of outcomes
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of participants' skills, interests, and goals.
- Develop individualized career plans for program participants and alumni in their college and career pathways in their chosen fields and across a variety of industries.
- Report regularly on participant outcomes.
- Utilize Microsoft products and other tools to track participant progress and outcomes, maintain accurate records, and generate reports.
- Collaborate with participants to identify and apply for relevant educational programs, internships, and job opportunities.
Educate and Mentor CreativeWorkers
- Offer workshops and training sessions on career building topics, such as resume writing, interview skills, networking, professional etiquette, interview skills, job search strategies, financial literacy, college application processes, and professional development.
- Coach and monitor the individual career plans for each participant.
- Support alumni in long term career plans and identify opportunities
- Act as a mentor and role model for program participants, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
Outreach & Partner Stewardship
- Stay up to date with industry trends and developments in our most common fields (the digital media, theater technology, and performing arts fields,) and incorporate this knowledge into program services.
- Coordinate and maintain partnerships with educational institutions, employers, industry professionals, community organizations, and other stakeholders to create additional opportunities for program participants.
- Coordinate and facilitate networking events, job fairs, and employer panels to connect participants with industry professionals and potential employers.
- Conduct and participate in outreach activities to recruit potential program participants and promote program services to the community.
- Collaborate with program staff to continuously improve the program curriculum and ensure its alignment with industry standards and demands.
QUALIFICATION:
● Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in a relevant field such as human services, counseling, workforce development, education, business, or a related discipline
● Valid State Identification.
● Authorized to work in the United States.
● Must complete FBI/MD background check
COMPETENCIES and SKILLS
● 3+ years experience in workforce development, career counseling, or related fields, with a strong understanding of industry practices, trends, and requirements.
● Understanding and appreciation of how the arts are a vital industry that instills creative thinking and innovation.
● Experience and ease in using work processing, databases, Microsoft office especially Excel, social media platforms and other computer environments.
● Previous experience in teaching and mentoring.
● Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build rapport with program participants from diverse backgrounds.
● Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with educational institutions, employers, and community organizations.
● Knowledge of local resources and services related to higher education, job training, and human services.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
● Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
● Flexible and creative. Patience and compassion for youth and under-represented groups
● Ability to work with co-workers, customers, and outside agencies professionally and tactfully while exhibiting a professional, businesslike appearance and demeanor

Pay: $52,000.00 - $56,160.00 per year
