Overview
Applies extensive and diversified knowledge of advanced materials science and engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out complex engineering assignments toward the development of new or refined equipment, materials, processes, and new products.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Independently applies advanced principles of materials science and processing techniques to develop innovative solutions for new product development, research and development, process engineering, manufacturing support, and quality issue resolution.

Ensures that materials and part design solutions meet performance, quality, and cost goals through comprehensive analysis of materials properties and process capabilities.

Defines materials requirements and standards based on comprehensive understanding of industry practices, regulatory requirements, and customer needs.

Spearheads the development and execution of robust test plans to characterize performance properties and process capabilities, providing technical leadership in materials testing techniques.

Ensures that test results and documentation adhere to industry standards and internal quality requirements.

Represents the materials engineering department on key programs and projects. Provides materials and processing consulting and technical assistance to A-dec employees, supplier partners and customers.

Directs engineers, technicians, and others who assist in projects on technical issues and assigned project deliverables. Leading design/process reviews and ensuring clear documentation of outcomes.

Leads the development and maintenance of process data and reference materials, as well as the creation and delivery of training materials for engineering, manufacturing, and other relevant staff.

Ensures that new products are competitive by researching competitive products, identifying customer needs, and establishing new product definition and design goals.

Applies state-of-the-art technology in materials science and participates in professional organizations and other networks to remain current with technological innovations.

Ensures the accomplishment of team objectives through timely completion of assigned tasks for self and others being directed, while maintaining clear, accurate project documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent written/oral communication skills with a proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment while following established procedures. Must have the ability to communicate vision, motivate and lead employees, and collaborate with other teams.

Demonstrates good organizational skills and the ability to manage time and resources effectively for a group’s technical activities.

Comprehensive knowledge mentoring others and independently analyzes complex problems to determine highly innovative and ingenious solutions, theories, and concepts.

In-depth engineering knowledge to interpret project requirements and apply materials science principles and testing methodologies independently, with occasional guidance from senior management.
Education and Experience
-
Bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering or a related field of science or engineering.

Typically has greater than ten (10) years of relevant professional or technical engineering experience of increasing responsibility and difficulty of assignment.

Has a substantial background in the technical, theoretical, and practical aspects of broad base engineering work and experience in the coordination and supervisory aspects of project management.
Preferred Education and Experience
-
Master’s degree in materials science or chemistry with greater than ten (10) years of experience.
-
Experience in medical devices or other highly regulated industry.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis. Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively. Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
