MAIN FUNCTION: Under the supervision of a Radiologist, performs a variety of advanced technical procedures involved in applying prescribed ionizing radiation for clinical diagnosis and management. The IR Technologist is required to have specialized knowledge and clinical skills to deal with the possible effects of radiological interventions on patients as well as maintain the education, clinical experience, skills and competency in the following subject areas:
a. Adaptation and process change
b. Coping mechanisms
c. Patient advocacy
d. Radiation safety principles and practices
e. Radiologic emergencies and appropriate initial interventions
f. Positioning for optimum comfort, radiation protection, and procedural needs
g. Screening risks and complications associated with contrast media administration
h. Preparation, screening, and patient education
i. Indications, risks and complications associated with IR procedures
j. Technological advances that affect patient care and departmental IR operations
EDUCATION: State of Connecticut License, ARRT (R), vascular certified preferred, CPR certification, A.S, BS degree preferred
EXPERIENCE: 2-4 years IR experience with a distinct body of knowledge that allows the individual to practice in the increasingly evidence based and complex Interventional Radiology environment.
