Summary:
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager implements a safety culture and program within the facility to ensure prevention of work-related injuries and compliance with government regulations. Coordinates with the safety committee and management in revising processes to minimize hazards to the employees. Ensures that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health regulations. Investigates safety concerns and makes recommendations on corrective actions.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Lead the monthly safety committee meetings to promote team member involvement and create a forum for sharing information and ideas that will improve safety in the workplace. Provide meeting minutes to management and employees including analysis of incidents, trends, risks identified, corrective actions, and training. Report safety-related data in accordance with business policies and requirements.
- Conduct the implementation of all federal, state, and local environmental programs (Air, Hazardous Waste, WWT, Storm Water, etc.) and permits and ensure compliance.
- Manage and maintain the local Emergency Action Plan and ensure safety preparedness.
- Manage, maintain, and enforce PPE programs and conduct industrial hygiene monitoring as needed.
- Using discretion and independent judgment, enforce, evaluate and manage existing safety programs such as LOTO, Respiratory Protection, Chemical Handling, Confined spaces, and Forklift training (etc.) while creating new programs to address existing safety hazards.
- Conduct periodic safety inspections to identify, recognize, and correct workplace hazards. Support a process for employees, supervisors, and managers to perform job safety analysis (JSA’s) to identify and control specific job hazards.
- Prepare and submits environmental reports in addition to managing and maintaining all written safety programs and training records, to ensure achievement of site safety metrics and regulatory compliance using discretion and independent judgment.
- Work with Human Resources to support the medical management of workplace injuries and return to work program.
- Provide health and safety orientation to new hires.
- Other duties may be assigned outside of the scope of this job description, as business needs require. All employees are expected to have a team player attitude and contribute to the team needs.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in EHS related field (Engineering or Chemistry acceptable), preferred.
- 3+ years’ experience developing or maintaining EHS programs for manufacturing, chemical, or consumer products in a manufacturing environment, preferred.
- Massachusetts Wastewater License or a willingness to study for one, preferred.
- Must have strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local OSHA regulations and safety codes.
- In-depth knowledge of MA DEP and EPA regulations and guidelines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills as you will work one-on-one with all levels of the organization.
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, if required.

Pay: $86,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
