Greenway Arts Alliance, a nonprofit arts and educational organization is seeking a part time Technical Director for its professional theatre and events.
Greenway Court Theatre and the Melrose Trading Post is operated by Greenway Arts Alliance, a community-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to unite communities through art, education and enterprise.
Greenway Arts Alliance has a rich history of presenting and producing diverse bodies of work both at the Greenway Court Theatre and the Melrose Trading Post. Greenway has opened its door to world premiers, weekly open mic poetry, festivals, co-productions and music at MTP. Greenway also hosts student productions, internships and workshops through the Greenway Institute for the Arts.
Position will report to the Producing Director
Position will also supervise Assistant Technical Director and some theatre staff
Minimum of 5 years of technical theatre management experience requiredincluding, but not limited to, contractors and artists, freelancers and other service providers ensuring the highest artistic standards are achieved
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Technical Director (TD), under the supervision of the Producing Director (PD), is a hands-on position that will perform carpentry, maintenance and technical work in addition to supervising crews for Greenway Court Theatre. Position will also maintain facilities for the Melrose Trading Post and other shared spaces organizations. GCT is a program of Greenway Arts Alliance, a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to unite communities through art, education and social enterprise.
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicate with designers and review all designs and make recommendations to the Producing Director about safety, feasibility and budget needs.
- Budget, schedule, staff and supervise all builds, hangs, load-ins and strikes.
- Oversee and coordinate the special OPs crew at the Melrose Trading Post along with MTP Operations Manager to identify and complete
- Manage Assistant Technical Director and Maintenance crew
- Maintain contacts and relationships of incoming designers
- Attend bi-monthly staff meetings
- Available to work Tuesday nights (DPL) poetry nights
- Oversee the audio and visual production process for Greenway Court Theatre (GCT), Greenway Institute for the Arts (GIA), and the Melrose Trading Post (MTP) Events
- Design, setting up and operating sound and lighting equipment for Projects/ Productions
- Providing technical support for productions, programs and events
- Schedule, hire and supervise technical overhire and contractors with Producing Director as needed.
- Coordinate and maintain inventory and storage of all tools, equipment and materials related to technical aspects of the theatre and other programs of Greenway Arts Alliance, including the maintenance, trouble-shooting and training of GIA staff on the audio and visual equipment used in their programming.
- Work with "Directors/ Designers" to oversee the completion of projects and ensure that all technical needs are catered to.
- Create mockups and technical drawings of scenes
- Recommending and using new technologies to improve work for all employees and executives
- Assist in developing a comprehensive build calendar for each production
- Assist in the preparation of time, labor, and materials projections for the season’s shows.
- Assist with drafting when needed
- Oversee administration and supervision of all safety systems
- Assist with Load-In and Strike for all shows assigned
- Attend all Technical Rehearsals
- Organize maintenance of scene shop equipment
- Maintain all Shop Equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Assist in the overall maintenance and repairs of the Greenway Court Theatre and MTP
- Any additional tasks as requested by the Producing Director
- Assist in the overall maintenance and repairs of the Melrose Trading Post Equipment
- Assist in the coverage of various shifts at the Melrose Trading Post as requested
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor Degree in Technical Theatre or related field / equivalent experience.
- 5 years’ experience in technical theatre.
- Advanced construction skills, including carpentry, welding, rigging, required
- Advanced proficiency in electrics, lighting, sound and video.
- Experience in facility management and maintenance.
- Must be highly organized, flexible and able to balance multiple competing demands
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and supervise a crew.
- Ability to read and analyze a budget.
- Ability to individually work with/ carry equipment weighing up to 70+lbs.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
· Undergraduate degree required
· Minimum 5 years of theatre management and producing theatre
