BASIC FUNCTION:
The purpose of this position is to assist the lead infectious disease physician in clinical improvement initiatives for an infectious disease clinic. The position involves no responsibility or authority for the direction of others.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include administrators, faculty, staff and students within both the department and University-wide. This position would serve as a liaison for the linkage and re-engagement efforts and quality clinical service delivery by providers with particular focus on successful patient health outcomes and retention. External contacts include government agencies, sponsor representatives, vendors, visitors, officials, and the public.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Perform data entry tasks to document patient records within facility databases and maintaining patient files
2. Prepares patients for medical appointments facilitating the following: obtaining and recording patients’ vital signs, taking medical history, explaining overall treatment procedures, and prepping patients for examination.
3. Prepares instruments and equipment used in examinations and/or medical / surgical procedures.
4. Collect samples taken from patients for testing, delivers them to the laboratory, and disposes of contaminated samples.
5. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes materials, instruments, equipment, rooms, and supplies.
6. Schedules patients for follow-up testing procedures.
7. Answers telephone, takes messages, and gives routine information according to established procedures.
8. Assists in coordinating administrative support functions for program activities including data entry, word processing, and reports (as needed).
9. Prepares and administers medications under the direction of the physician.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required and 1-3 years of relevant experience
