Main function: Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Leadership: Consider cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time. Lead and direct patient care in a single operating room.
- Center Operations: Organize time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management. Organize nursing activities efficiently and effectively. Assist with supply, drug, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability. Document patient care records and other forms accurately following policies and procedures. Provide for comfort in the physical environment by monitoring designated parameters. Use equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care. Confirm the proper technique and procedures are used according to accepted standards and practices.
- Team: Participate as a team member in support of the total peri-operative process.
- Communications: Accurately advise patients’ status to others responsible for the patient’s care. Review patient’s medical records/needs in order to plan care with other health care team members. Provide continuity of patient care by communicating with other peri-operative care personnel and documenting records accordingly. Accurately comprehend and interpret verbal orders/ directions.
- Compliance: Follow HIPAA and privacy laws in maintaining patient’s privacy and dignity. Assist with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures.
- OR Operations: Perform the circulating & scrub nurse’s role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures. Prepare operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed. Assemble and provide properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure. Assist with identification and confirmation of operative site.
- Patient Care: Address patient needs during admission to the operating room, with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting. Transport patients to the operating room observing policies/procedures, safety requirements, and patient needs. Provide comfort and reassurance to patient. Explain intra-operative phase of routine procedures and care to the patient. Respond in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.
- Surgical Procedures: Anticipate needs of surgical team and assist anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia. Assist with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepare operative site as directed by established procedures. Identify the patient and correct surgical intervention according to policy/procedure and communicates such information to all members of the surgical team.
Job Requirements:
Required
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- RN with active license in appropriate state
- CPR certification
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English
Preferred
- ACLS certification
- ASC experience
- Computer literacy
Qualifications:
- Cooperative work attitude toward co-employees, management, patients, visitors, and physicians
- Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, insurance companies, and general public
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate clinical decisions and competent judgment
